Top Ten Online Games: From List to List of all the Hits

There are a countless array of online games, sites and reviews to choose from, so it is next to impossible to tell which top ten list is the list to end all lists. It is probably easier to choose a genre and then look at the top ten lists of that type and go from there. Some games will be mentioned on more than one list: for instance, a really hot game will be listed on a list as one of the "Top Hottest Games" or, the "Top Fantasy Games" or even the "Biggest Selling Game". Of course, none of that matters if it is not the type of game that you yourself are looking for, now, does it? If you only play first person shooting games, and you are stuck reading a top ten list for "virtual world games", does that help you make a choice? No, it does not. Perhaps you are looking for a child's game or a nice relaxing card game, or a more vibrant war game, no matter what you are looking for, you should know the sites you will go to find it, and you should know what reviews and lists you should read to help in your decisions.

Below is the list of top ten games for teens and adults

1) Guild Wars Nightfall

Part of the series, (the third installment), this game features a mad ruler who is working to bring darkness to Elona. This version has increased playability by introducing Heroes that can be customized, follow player instruction and fight alongside them. The game features a large number of missions and even more quests, and those who are looking for more of a thrill can choose to fight other players world wide in Hero vs. Hero battles.

Game review from gamespot.com

"Guild Wars Nightfall a massive game featuring plenty of solo, cooperative, and competitive questing and combat. Whereas Factions took place in an Asian-inspired setting, Nightfall has an ancient Egyptian look and feel, and unlike Factions, it's more focused on solo and cooperative questing than on a mix of that and high-level player-versus-player battles"

3) Warhammer online : Ages of Reckoning

The latest version of the Warhammer games, this one features new levels of play and characters. The game take place within three different racial pairings: Dwarfs vs. Greenskins, Empire vs. Chaos, and High Elves vs. Dark Elves. Although there are only two races per pairing, players may travel to either of the other two pairings to help fight with their friends and allies. There are four types of RvR combat: Skirmishes (random world encounters), Battlefields (objective-driven battles in RvR-specific areas), Scenarios (instanced, point-based battles against the opposing faction), and Campaigns (invading enemy lands and capital cities). RvR contribution includes both Player vs. Player (PvP) combat and (to a lesser extent) Player vs. Environment (PvE) quests so that you can assist your realm in their victory, regardless of preferred play-style.

Game review from gamespot.com

"War, appropriately, is the focus in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Few persistent world, online role-playing game have focused so much on player-versus-player combat or done it this well. Fireballs fly, swords clash, and pet lions pounce as the opposing forces of Order and Destruction pound on each other for server dominance. From open warfare to stand-alone scenarios, there are a number of ways to establish battle superiority, and Warhammer Online consistently offers in-game rewards for your combat prowess, making this game the one-stop shop for all your elf-bashing needs. There are other innovations too, though they take a supporting role: public quests that allow passersby to jump in and join the fray, for example, as well as the excellent Tome of Knowledge, an in-game encyclopedia overflowing with all the information you would ever want. 7) Diablo 2

Basically a re-released version of the classic Diablo game, this one remains one of the most popular online games of all times.

The storyline of Diablo II progresses through four acts, with each act following a predetermined path and list of quests. Some quests are optional. The player assumes the role of a hero from one of five different character classes. Players fight monsters through wilderness areas and dungeons in order to level-up their character and gain better items. Combat is in real-time, and shown from an isometric viewpoint. Players also have the option of hiring one of several computer-controlled mercenaries, or hirelings, that follow the player and attack nearby enemies. A powerful boss monster awaits the player at the end of each act. Item drops, monster attributes, and most dungeon layouts are randomly-generated by Diablo II.

8) City of Villian

This game is not just another addition to the popular City of Heroes, it is its entity with its own world. You build the villain and then unleash him on the fictional Paragon City.

gamespot.com Review

"You've tired of the pitiful battle cries of those self-righteous, meddling heroes of Paragon City. You'd like nothing better than to strap on your darkest cowl, tattoo your face with arcane symbols, and begin wreaking havoc on any mewling citizen that dares step in your path. Welcome, fellow fiend, to City of Villains, the sequel of sorts to NCSoft's City of Heroes, which was released in 2004. Considered as a stand-alone game, City of Villains delivers only a marginally different experience than its predecessor, though it includes, most notably, player-versus-player combat. When played as a companion game to the original, City of Villains closes an obvious open loop in NCSoft's MMO world of heroic do-gooders and dastardly deeds, and remains a very fun game in the process."

10) EVE Online

This is a multiplayer online game that allows you to play and defeat other players worldwide. Set in space, EVE online allows for a brief free trial.

Game spot review
"Like many other massively multiplayer online role-playing games, EVE Online: The Second Genesis has a lot of ambitious intentions. It offers you the chance to create a unique persona in its vast science-fiction universe and then seek out power, riches, allies, fame, or notoriety as you become increasingly proficient as a starship captain, a bounty hunter, a miner of rare minerals, an interstellar trader, or an officer in an influential corporation, among other things. EVE features some of the best graphics to date in an online RPG, and it is the best-looking outer space game in years. The game also offers some interesting variations on the conventions of the genre, most notably in how it's not at all focused on your character having to constantly kill things in order to level up. Unfortunately, many of EVE's ambitions remain unfulfilled weeks after the game's release. The lack of clear-cut incentives, risks, and rewards leaves the world of EVE seeming empty. The game can have its moments, since like many online games, it can be entertaining if you happen to find a good group of people to play and chat with. But at this point, EVE is suitable only for very patient science-fiction fans with lots of time to spare. "
