Squidoo Tip # 1 - Join SquidU
Our Squidoo Forum
As soon as you join Squidoo, go to SquidU. SquidU is our forum and a learning center. You will learn so much about lensmaking and meet the Squidoo community. Spend some time reading there, create your profile, and introduce yourself. Make a habit of visiting SquidU every day. You will be so glad you developed this habit early. Squidoo Tip # 2 - Your Squidoo Profile
Complete Your Bio
Go to your dashboard and click on the tab marked Profile. This is where you will tell us about yourself. Lenses without a bio are often passed over for visits, comments, and angel blessings.Tell us about yourself in more than one sentence, please. What are your interests? How did you find Squidoo?
And do fill out all your contact information, too. Many of us are very active on Twitter and/or Facebook. We want to be able to find you there, too!
As you create lenses - it's a good idea to change your bio on each lens you create. Say a little something about your subject.
Learn More about Your Profile
Squidoo Tip # 3 - Your photograph
Introduce yourself!
While you are in the profile tab, upload a picture of yourself. Your picture and bio will appear on all of your lenses. This becomes your default bio, so you want to be sure to have a happy picture of yourself in this spot. Some lensmasters very skillfully use an icon instead of a picture. If you do that, be sure it is original and eye-catching. You want something that will be immediately recognized by your readers. Squidoo Tip # 4 - Original Content
Make it Uniquely Yours
Squidoo is about expressing yourself. Please do not fill your text modules, and especially the intro module, with information you have cut and pasted. Anybody can do that! Make your lenses unique. Write original text.Be helpful - teach us what you know!
Squidoo Tip # 5 - Add a Guest Book
Lensmasters love to comment!
Add a guest book. As a new Squidoo lensmaster, you will discover that visits and comments on your lenses are your support and encouragement. Give folks the opportunity to communicate with you and tell you how much they like your lens.
Most importantly, change that Guest Book module default title. It is much more pleasant to welcome your readers, or ask them a question about your subject, than to see that stark "Guest Book" title.
Squidoo Tip # 6 - Replace Default Module Titles
Default Module Titles - Change them!
Before you publish your lens, check all your module titles. Be sure you have changed them all to original titles. You want your titles to be interesting and to invite your reader to continue reading your lens.Note: Remember -- if you forget to change a module title, and you notice it later, you can always edit your lens and change that module title.
One of the nicest things about Squidoo is our ability to make changes and continue to improve our lenses, even months after they are published.
Squidoo Tip # 7 - Use a Variety of Modules
Dare something different.
Browse all the modules available. Take the module tour.
Lensmaster FunGifts4All has created a series of lenses describing each module. Do take the time to visit those lenses. You mind will be spinning with super creative ideas!

Squidoo Tip # 8 - Learn from the experts
Read, read and read some more
Squidoo lensmasters are a very generous bunch! There are lenses about how to do almost everything on Squidoo. Get yourself a Squidoo education by reading all of these super lenses! You will be glad you did!I am sharing a few of my most favorites right here. And after you visit these, visit the top 100 in the Squidoo Tips category!
Expert Lenses - Squidoo Lens Lessons
Squidoo Tip # 9 - Visit, meet and greet
Squidoo is a community of super lensmasters. Visit at least 5 lenses a day. Start with the top 100 and get to know your fellow lensmasters. As you visit and get more involved in the community, you will soon find yourself surrounded by friends. Internet friends, particularly Squidoo friends, add joy and fun to your day.
Remember to participate in plexos and duels and anything that allows you to comment. Let us learn more about you, too!
Note: It is considered poor etiquette to leave an unrelated link in the comment section. I personally remove those comments on my lenses. Remember, if someone wants to know more about you, all they have to do is click on your photo to see all of your lenses. There is no need to spam other lenses with your links.
Squidoo Tip # 10 - Have fun!
Squidoo is Fun!
Tons of fun is available on Squidoo and it's all free to read! Participate in some of the new photo caption lenses! Some of those are hilarious! And there is an entire category of humor lenses! Need a giggle? Visit a few of those for some laughs!

- Joan, a very helpful lens for newbies. Squidoo is becoming more complex as innovations continue to occur - it can be a bit daunting for the beginner. I like the clarity of your writing and the focus on simple but critial aspects of working with Squidoo lenses. Sprinkled with stardust and an Angel's Blessing.

- Great tips Joan. SquidU wasn't around yet when I started. But I was part of another group where several of us joined Squidoo around the same time, and we all helped each other. It's nice that they're so many helpful options now.

- Love the lens. Tip #2 is a pet peeve for me. I don't know why but when the bio says "this is my bio, I can update it later" it just makes drives me nuts.
