Popular Toys that aren't toys
Have you ever given your kids some popular toys and they end up playing with the box? Of course, we all have. Kids know what is fun--they don't have to have the latest "cool toys". Kids enjoy normal, everyday things. Hope these ideas get your imagination going!
Top Toy: Duct Tape
Top All Time Toys
My husband swears by duct tape. He uses it to tape everything together. He tapes his shoes together-he tapes boxes--he has even taped his skin? Kids love Duct tape. They love the things they can create with it. My kids enjoyed taping things together like paper mache! They could make snowmen or people or forts --all with duct tape.
Cellophane tape would be a version of duct tape. Kids can make all sorts of things with cellophane.

Top Toy: Sandbox

There is something about sand that is intriguing to adults and children of all ages! Running your fingers through the sand is calming. Building castles in the sand and tearing them down is tremendous fun. Burying yourself in sand is thrilling. Creating and playing in sand spans all ages and all abilities. Be sure to get your kids a sandbox. If it is winter, just get a pail and put a small amount sand in it and put it in the kitchen for easy cleanup.

Water in every shape and size. Stream of water coming from a hose in the back yard=hours of fun. Water in a bathtub=hours of fun. Water in a pail in the kitchen or in the sink=hours of fun. Water can be used for science experiments, cleaning the floors and playing, water gun fights, throwing rocks in rivers and streams and just plain horsing around. Water Guns
Top Toy: Blanket
Top All Time Toys
What would a list of toys that aren't toys be without a blanket? A blanket can be used to build forts in the living room. My kids would work for hours getting everything set up and then tearing the forts down again! A blanket can be used as a superman cape, or any superhero. A blanket can be used for a picnic in the living room on a snowy day. A blanket or many blankets

- This one's for really young children, but I'll never forget my sons playing in cardboard boxes and even in the kitchen cupboards.

- We used to pick flowers and make them into necklaces or the tube shaped ones like trumpet vines fit on your fingers. Kids will play with anything given the chance to explore without structure.
