Keeping up with Kids Characters
So, this lens is to help give you a map to some of the top kids characters. Some have been around for years while others are very new. Either way, you're sure to find some of the characters that are hot today.
Mickey Mouse
Mickey Mouse is one of the most beloved and recognizable kids characters of all time. Created by Disney in 1928, Mickey has been the leader of the Mickey Mouse Club and has troops of followers throughout the years. Amazingly, Mickey is still as popular a kids character today as he has been for over the past 80 years.I remember watching Mickey cartoons as a little kid and being drawn to him and his dog Pluto. Mickey has always embodied the magical world of Disney, and when you think of Disney World, you think about Mickey Mouse. Ben 10

Ben 10 is a kids character who has been super popular over the past few years. The excitement comes with the creativity of the show makers. Ben stumbles across an alien pod in the woods one day and find the Omnitrix, which allows him to transform into different alien life forms, which have different powers. Much like Spider Man, he now realizes that he has a unique responsibility to others with his new powers.
As children fans of Ben 10 have grown, so has his character. The sequel series to Ben 10 came out in 2008 on Cartoon Network, and it was called Ben 10: Alien Force. Also, in 2010, Ben 10: Evolutions is scheduled to be released.

Wow Wow Wubbzy
In contrast to a character like Mickey Mouse who has been around for years is a character like Wow Wow Wubbzy who was created recently by Bob Boyle. The series premiered on Nick Jr. on August 28, 2006.The show itself is animated in Flash and each half-hour episode promotes positive values like honesty, tolerance, fairness, and cooperation for preschool age kids. The main characters are Wubbzy, Widget, Walden and Daizy.
The title character, Wubbzy is a male yellow square-shaped cat-like creature with a long, bendy tail that he bounces on in a Tigger-like fashion (very Winnie the Pooh-ish). He has a childlike fascination with life, and his favorite pastime is playing kickety-kick ball. His daily travels throughout Wuzzleburg often result in his response, "Wow, wow, wow!".

Strawberry Shortcake
Strawberry Shortcake is a character that was originally use on greeting cards by American Greetings, but eventually expanded to a TV show in the 1980s. The show grew Strawberry Shortcake to a widely popular kids character and a whole line of merchandise was created.In 2002, there was a relaunch of this character. A 2003 TV series was relaunched and it primarily focused as being an educational program. In October 2006, the first Strawberry Shortcake film, The Sweet Dreams Movie, was released in select cities by Kidtoon Films.

The Wiggles

The Wiggles have been hugely popular kids characters, dating back to 1991. The main thrust of the Wiggles is that they are a musical group who teach children to learn and have fun through song. It's hard to have had a kid grow up in the last 20 years and not know about the Wiggles.
By 1995, they had set records for video and music sales, and approached the ABC for a television series to create more awareness for the group.
The group has franchised their concepts to other countries, developed Wiggles sections in amusement parks in Australia and the US, and won several recording industry awards. The Wiggles have been called "the world's biggest preschool band" and "your child's first rock band".
The band has achieved outstanding success and has managed to maintain a super powerful brand in the midst of much adversity.

Wonder Pets
Wonder Pets is an exciting new Nick Jr. show for preschoolers. It debuted on March 3, 2006, on the Nick Jr. block of the Nickelodeon cable television network and Noggin on August 31, 2006. It won an Emmy Award in 2008 for Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition.Each episode follows the adventures of three classroom pets--Linny the Guinea Pig, Ming-Ming Duckling, and Turtle Tuck--who travel around the globe helping to rescue animals who need their help.

Lego
Seriously, who hasn't played with Legos? They have been a staple in kids toys for years. So, while Lego may not be a specific kids character, there are all kinds of different Lego worlds that have been birthed over the years. Maybe the most popular is the Lego Star Wars world, which has even birthed a video game.By staying with the times, Lego has been able to be a top kids brand for years. They've come a long way from the simple building block toys you remember as a kid, and now have very fun and sophisticated toys and worlds to play with.

Dora the Explorer
Dora the Explorer is an American animated television series that is carried on the Nickelodeon cable television network. A pilot episode for the series aired in 1999, and Dora the Explorer became a regular series in 2000. The show aired on CBS until September 2006. A Spanish-dubbed version first aired as part of a Nick en español block on NBC Universal-owned Telemundo through September 2006; since April of 2008, this version of the program airs on Univision as part of the Planeta U block.Dora the Explorer, from the popular Nick Jr. show, is a problem solver who doesn't give up when faced with obstacles. The show teaches preschool children many important lessons in both English and Spanish, which is partly why it has seen tremendous success.
Thomas the Tank Engine

Talk about a character with some lasting power... Thomas the Tank Engine is a fictional anthropomorphic steam locomotive created by the Rev. W. V. Awdry as one of a number of charactersin his Railway Series books, first published in the 1940s.
Thomas is a tank engine: a steam locomotive with large rectangular tanks to carry water, on each side of his boiler. He is based on the E2 Class 0-6-0T locomotives built for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway between 1913 and 1916.

Sesame Street
Sesame Street is an American educational children's television series and a pioneer of the contemporary educational television standard, combining both education and entertainment. It premiered on November 10, 1969, and is the longest running children's program on American television.In 1986, I lived in Michigan, and I was 5 years old. One of the best thing about living in Michigan was the great snow to play in. Well, silly old me went down a hill head first and ended up hitting a street sign, giving me 10 stitches across my brow. The home video of me calling grandpa and grandma has Burt and Ernie on in the background. Sesame Street helped me in my recovery and was a stable friend.
For years now, Sesame Street has been a fantastic educational program for children. Over the years, new characters like Elmo and Abby Cadabby have emerged, and the show continues to go strong.

Bob the Builder
At a very early age, Bob teaches kids that they can overcome problems. It's fantastic to teach kids to work hard and succeed. Bob's catchphrase is "Can we fix it?", to which the other characters respond with "Yes we can!".
Go Diego Go
Go Diego Go, an animated series for preschool-aged children, is a spin-off of Dora the Explorer. The show premiered on September 6, 2007 on Nickelodeon. It also aired as part of the Nick Jr. on CBS block from September 17, 2005 to September 16, 2006. On December 20, 2006 Nick Jr. announced that it had ordered twenty new episodes that were in production. Since April 2008, the show has been dubbed into Spanish and airs in the USA on Univision as part of their Planeta U block. The series finale of Go, Diego, Go! aired on May 30, 2009, and is titled The Great Polar Bear Rescue.The show features a little 8-year-old boy, Diego Márquez, (voiced by Jake T. Austin), who helps animals in danger, mainly in the rainforest. His cousin is Dora from Dora the Explorer, as revealed in the 2 shows. He has a jaguar companion named "Baby Jaguar" who assists him on adventures.
Backyardigans
The Backyardigans is a 3-D CGI-animated children's TV series, created by Janice Burgess. It is a co production of Nick Jr. and the Canadian animation studio Nelvana. Debuting on November 22, 2004, it originally had 20 episodes. It aired on CBS from October 2004 until September 2006. Music for the show is written by Evan Lurie, of The Lounge Lizards, and Douglas Wieselman. The characters were designed by children's book author and illustrator Dan Yaccarino.On April 30, 2006, Nelvana and Nickelodeon jointly announced that twenty new episodes were ordered for the upcoming fall schedule. In the UK, the second season debuted on October 30, 2006. The third season was released in Canada in March 2008, and the series made its Australian debut in the same year. A fourth season is currently in production.
