These Are The Best Of The Best: My Favorite Squidoo Lenses

Pulling together all the elements that make up a great Squidoo lens is something all lensmasters work to achieve. A lot just don't make the cut (take a look at my lenses), but some just command your attention.

This lens is just a simple list of those lenses that I particularly like. There are some that cover all types of topics, like travel, how to make money on Squidoo, how to make use of everyday household products, or they are just the lensmasters own tributes to certain celebrities, or their hobbies. I just wish I could include all my favorites, but to do that, all you have to do is to log onto Squidoo. You are only limited at Squidoo by your own imagination.

How To Create A Jaw Dropping Lens

You've seen them. Great lenses that just make you stop and think Wow! That is an awesome lens. Where's my "favorite it" button? I've been able to find some stunning lenses that knocked my socks off visually and with the content the particular lensmaster has gathered together and include them here. They raise the bar for the rest of us. If you want to have an absolutely top-notch lens, you need to work hard to meet the standards they set.

What Makes My Socks Fly?

Well, great content to start. Unique images. A great layout. I hate seeing a lens that looks cluttered. That's one of my own problems on my lenses. I think they're just a little too jumbled.

What I love to see is information and pictures juxtapositioned in a clean, neat way. The content is most important to me. I'm a voracious reader. I read anything and everything, always have and likely always will. Reading engaging text that gives you pause and makes you want to re-read what you've just taken in should be the goal of anyone who writes. You know what you like and if a writer can make you feel emotion from the dry, written word? You remember the ideas he or she is trying to convey. That's the whole enchilata as far as poetry goes. And good writing in general too.

I believe that if you write something, anything, you can always improve upon it. It's always better to write something (even if it's pure drivel) than to write nothing at all. Most of the best writing you've seen has usually gone through numerous drafts and re-writes before it falls into your hands. Write it, put it aside and then re-read it or have someone else read it for you. You'll be surprised at what an extra pair of eyes will spot in your ramblings that can be fixed or adjusted.

Images: The Short Story

I'm a word man. I like puns, jokes, and plays on words. I get that from my Dad who tells the corniest jokes. But, an image can stop you in your tracks.

You know the old saw, "A picture is worth a thousand words." That is so true. A photo is really a compressed short story that can be interpreted differently by different people. We see images every day of our lives, but some stick with us all our lives. Movement, frozen in time, sometimes in a photograph, or just in our mind, we remember that which catches our eye.

That's what makes photography so much fun. You can capture the harsh realities of life or bend an image to suit your purposes. We all can picture New York during the horror of 911 but we also remember the smiling faces of loved ones at Christmas. Take some pictures and look at them years later. Don't they just evoke warm feelings and fond memories (even if you were arguing with your spouse before company arrived?)

Truly Beautiful Lenses

These should be trotted out for all new members of Squidoo so they can see what can be accomplished. Just stunningly beautiful lenses, incredible formatting and use of the space available. These will instantly become your favorites as well.

The Triumvirate: Seth, Megan and Gil

Seth Godin is the man. He's the guy who started Squidoo. Megan Casey is the Editor-in-Chief at Squidoo. Gil Hildebrand, (aka Giltotherescue), hails from New Orleans and is the chief engineer and tech go-to guy at Squidoo.

Lots Of Cool Artwork Lenses

You Really Need To Take A Look At These. Really, Really Good Stuff

Squidoo is a great medium for featuring various artists, painters and sculptures.

These Are Just A Few Of The Lensmasters I Admire

This module shouldn't be limited to just five! There are so many others besides just Loyalis, Jaguar Julie, Janet21, Christine and Fluffanutta. All have a ton of information created to help lensmasters get to the next step.

These Are The Lenses I Like To Refer To When I Have A Question About Making Lenses

Read, Read and Then Read Some More

When I arrived at Squidoo, I had some knowledge about HTML and CSS, but applying what I knew to making lenses? I was unsure.

So I looked around and found a bunch of lensmasters who had already created some amazingly detailed lenses about applying HTML and CSS to Squidoo. There's a lot more available if you want to look, but all you need to create great looking lenses is on these lenses.

What About Money?

Then I thought "Hmmm. I wonder how you make money with a lens?" There's a lot of lenses that help you out in that area too. I saved the lenses I thought were the best in that area and read and then re-read them. I followed their links to other lenses and checked all over the internet to try to find "the secret" to making money on Squidoo. I found out what the "secret" was all right. Hard work and diligence! Maybe with a little bit of luck thrown in.

Read, Read and Then Do A Little Reading

That's just about the best advise I can give. Maybe it should be read and test, then read some more then test some more. Take a look at the best lenses I've highlighted here, but go looking for great lenses yourself. There are over 750,000 lenses on Squidoo. Have I read them all? No way! I want to, but even I have a life. Go to the forum at Squidu and ask some questions. Read some of the posts from other squids. See if you can apply what they've learned to your situation. Read blogs about Squidoo. A lot of people here have some very informative blogs. Not just mine (although I like it, thank you very much!)

Read A Book About Marketing!

They're not all boring books full of charts. There are a ga-zillion books being made about internet marketing being written that are fun, informative and that you can apply to yourself. The founder of Squidoo, Seth Godin, has written a bunch of great books about marketing that you can pick up.

Some Great Lenses About How To Be Successful On Squidoo

Everyone who's working with Squidoo can use a little help. Here's a series of lenses I like that give you a leg up.

Some Of The Best Info About HTML and CSS On Squidoo

There's more than just these lenses that give lenmasters a hand in formatting their lenses, but these ones are essential in my opinion.

Animation and Graphics

Here are some great lens for you to oogle. These are just outstanding and if they don't motivate you to add great images, nothing will. I look at these and I want to make some cool graphics myself!

Lens Of The Day!

Take a look at these great lenses that have been chosen as the Lens Of The Day. There are some lensmasters who have been working diligently away making lens after great lens who haven't received this honor.

Yeah, But How Do I Make Money Online?

You can make some money with Squidoo lenses and you need to know that there is no magic formula that lets you write up a lens and presto your bank account suddenly is bulging with loot. There's work involved.

I Have A Blog Where I Ramble On About Squidoo Called Squidoo Land

I've been doing a blog called Squidoo Land almost from the moment I signed up. It's not on par with Captain Squid's or Pot Pit Girl's excellent blogs, but I have some readers and I post to it almost every day. Stop by for a peek into my mind. Uh, no, you probably don't want to go there. Just stop by for some somewhat interesting musings from your truly.

What Are Your Favorite Lenses?

I wish I could add a lot more lenses to this directory of my favorites. There are sooo many other great ones. Maybe a 2nd lens: "My 2nd Most Favorites..." Nah, that sounds like they don't measure up and a lot of them really do measure up big-time.

I wholeheartedly agree with your lens choices, and love the montage of lensmasters you have at the top. That was ingenious! As for a favorite lens, too many to narrow down, as you've mentioned.

Everybody Here Helps Me Become A Better Squidoo Lensmaster

I thought I'd put together a picture of a small group of the lensmasters who have given me inspiration to do better at Squidoo since I first joined up. It sorta grew to this large shot of some of the Squids who have given me a push to do better, and they still do!

I wish I had a bigger canvas so I could include more of the great lensmasters at Squidoo. If I left you out, I want you to know that I still value your contributions to Squidoo and I'll talk with you over at Squidu soon. See how many you recognize!

A Little Self-Promotion Never Hurt Anyone

Okay, I have some lenses that I've made that I'd like you to check out. They may not be up to the high standard set by the ones I've highlighted above, but they're mine and I like them. Let me now what you think.

I've been at Squidoo since mid-August 2008 working away like mad, building lenses like there's no tomorrow and I still feel like I've barely scratched... (more)
