While many non-skaters choose to wear them as a fashion icon, skateboard shoes will remain favorites for all skateborders themselves as the design of the shoes includes many features that are specially designed for use in skating. These features almost invariably include a flat sole made of rubber or polyurethane, a suede or leather composition, and double or triple stitching.
Tha main feature of a pair of skateboard shoes is the design for durability. These shoes are firstly subjected to the continued abrasiveness of a skateboard's grip tape when worn on a regular basis by skaters. Products like Super Suede, Action Leather, and plastic underlying the toe cap are used to helps to increase the durability. Lace loops and protectors are designed to prevent laces from shredding by shielding the most common areas that contact with grip tape.

...when shopping for a pair (or two) of skateboarding shoes
There are literally hundreds of skate shoe brand out there, easy enough for you to get lost in the seas colors, gimmicks and prices. Fear not though, take you time to examine the product, learn more about it from you peers, and have the following points in mind to consider:
- Stitching - bet on those that are largely double stitched, or even triple stitched, and not just glued. Good quality skateboard shoes need to be stitched together. It helps them hold together longer.
- Material you might not want canvas shoes unless you not planning to do anything too aggressive. Strong skate shoes are usually made out of leather or suede, or something synthetic that is just as strong.
- Reinforcement look for extra layers on the toe cap, some on the side where you will be dragging your foot during 'ollies,' along the lace eyelets, around the heel...
- Weight - all the technology and design should still makes the skate shoe light enough (relatively) to not drag you down or hamper your movement, and the word here is light, not flimsy.
- Grip grippy gum rubber soles?. Not just regular street shoe rubber. You need these things to grip the board.
- Padding padded tongues and heel collars, and cushy heel pad? Personal preference here - padding is all for comfort.
- Lace Protection do not miss out on this item, or it will burn you. Are the lace holes reinforced with metal? Does the shoe come with flaps for the lower lace holes, that will protect your laces when you do flip tricks?
- Pro Signature probably will cost you a bit more, but a pro who has a good name will not want his or her name slapped onto a crappy shoe. Your bet.
- Style the least important feature as far as skatability, but if it not for the skateboarding, then why not?
