My Top Ten Music CDs Are Now Downloads!

My personal list of the top ten CDs of all time and the songs that made me a fan. I have a variety of favorites in every genre of music and try not to limit myself to the vast array of talent out there. I bought my first album in 1984, it was "Cuts like a Knife" from Bryan Adams. Before long I had a collection that I will treasure forever. Times have changed and now it's all about music downloads, the great thing about those are you can fit everything you have ever liked onto an mp3 player or ipod. My how technology has changed since I bought my first album, who would have seen it coming!

#1 Bryan Adams' Cuts Like A Knife

Cuts like a knife was Bryan Adams' first album released in January 1983. The song that got my attention was "Cuts Like A Knife" but when I heard "Straight from the heart" I was an instant fan. I saw Bryan Adams in concert 3 times in Montreal, Quebec at the old Forum.

Bryan Adams is the type of talent that stands the test of time. Being from Canada I'm proud to say he's represents Canadian music at its finest.

#2 Shania Twain - The Woman In Me

"The Woman In Me" is another Canadian artist that represents Canada well. Shania is my hero, I respect everything she had to endure to make it where she is today, never compromising herself or selling herself short. The first music video I ever saw was "What Made You Say That". I thought she was so natural and real in the way she presented herself.

Next single from that album was "Any Man of Mine" that got everyone dancing and singing loud! I don't think there was one song on that CD that I didn't absolutely love, so Shania's Woman In Me Album gets one of the top spots on my list of top ten CDs of all time.

#3 Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill

Alanis Morissette, yes another Canadian, (purely by coincidence) gets the #3 spot because she to me was a musical genius. Every song on that album is classic. From "Ironic" to "Mary Jane" was unmatched by any music out there at that time, in the early 1995 and beyond.
"You Oughta Know" was my all time favorite. Although Alanis put out albums since "Jagged Little Pill", nothing has ever compared.

You Oughta Know

The acoustic version of the song which was slowed down a little, but more profound.

#4 James Blunt - Back To Bedlam

Ok, not a Canadian artist but is currently my most played CD and the artist I can't seem to get enough of.

"Back To Bedlam" recorded in 2005 was so original, separate from any type of music out there at the time.
After my daughter and I watched "The Notebook" we listened to the song by James Blunt; "Goodbye My Lover" and couldn't help but feel it would have been the perfect song to close the movie song. This is my all time favorite song. His voice is unique and he's so humble.

While his videos are interesting, I much prefer to watch videos of his concert performances where you can really witness his vulnerability and intensity.

#5 Elton John - Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy

Elton John was my late 80's obsession. I bought every (record) at the time and played his albums until I wore them out. This one in particular would be listed as my favorite album because of the song "Curtains". This song reminded me of my own childhood memories and stuck in my mind for all of these years.

The lyrics to "Curtains" is more of a poem than a song (written by Bernie Taupin). After you read the lyrics you won't help being able to think of your own childhood. It might even bring you to tears.

Curtains

I used to know this old scarecrow
He was my song, my joy and sorrow
Cast alone between the furrows
Of a field no longer sown by anyone

I held a dandelion
That said the time had come
To leave upon the wind
Not to return
When summer burned the earth again

Cultivate the freshest flower
This garden ever grew
Beneath these branches
I once wrote such childish words for you

But that's okay
There's treasure children always seek to find
And just like us
You must have had
A once upon a time

#6 James Blunt - All The Lost Souls

Because James Blunt is my current favorite I can't help but add in "All The Lost Souls" to my top ten favorites list. "Carry You Home" and "One Of The Brightest Stars" are equally my favorite songs on the CD. I thought it couldn't get any better than his first album, but it does, and this is why "All The Lost Souls" comes in at #5.

#7 Air Supply - Greatest Hits

"Air Supply's Greatest Hits" was the album I used to drown in my tears too. Those teenage years when "love" is all you think of, was what made me a believer of Air Supply. "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All" was my favorite single from this album. Every song was great so it's a really hard pick, but this was my first choice.

#8 Faith Hill - Fireflies

"Fireflies" is by far Faith Hill's best CD. Her comeback album after having her last child was definitely a comeback! My daughter loved the single "Fireflies", but of course her duet "Like We Never Loved At All" and "Stealing Kisses" were two of my favorites. "Wish For You" was the most unique song on the CD. It was old school and reminded me of a song sang in the 30's or 40's. Truly a pleasure to name in my top ten CDs of all time.

#9 Norah Jones - Come Away With Me

Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me" is what I listen to when I'm attempting to relax. The title song is my favorite on the CD. Definitely a CD to play on a romantic evening or just when you've had a hard day and you're looking for a little peace.
