Wii Gives New Meaning to the Phrase "Get In the Game"...

Since it's release in late 2006, Wii has become a national gaming craze. The introduction of a motion-sensitive controller that records a players actions on 3 planes has set a new standard for the gaming industry. Not only does Wii allow you to play a game, but "get into" a game- something which until now was simply a dream.

So, which games are the best and what is to come in the future for Wii? This lens will attempt to clear up those questions.

My Number #1 Choice for Christmas 2011

Skylanders Spyro's AdventureIt's that time of year again! The kids are busy making their Christmas lists and it's time for us, as parents, to review that list and determine what's worth spending money on and what's not...

I have to admit, it was a little more difficult to come up with a list of favorites this season. It's almost as if, with the release of the Nintendo DS3 console, that the release of Wii based games slowed down.

This year, my 10 year old only had one major game that he wanted and after looking into it, it quickly became my number 1 too! The game is Skylanders Spyro's Adventure.

☞ Why It's My Top Choice

❖ It's Family Friendly - I'm a big fan of anything that's muti-player capable and friendly for family members of all ages. This game is listed as a 10+ game, but I think that's more due to the difficulty of the game as opposed to violence or anything like that. Younger kids would actually find the game figurines rather cute and loveable.
❖ The Figurines store your progress - This is HUGE plus. In the past, all Wii games stored the progress of your game directly on the console itself or on an SD card meaning you couldn't just take your game disc to a friend's house and play a multiplayer game that picked up where you left off. You had to start all over again and store your new progress is a new user account on their machine.

Another Good One From Disney

Disney Universe

Disney Universe

I was a fan of Epic Mickey when Disney released it since Disney is one of those brand names that you can count on releasing more family friendly titles. The problem with Epic Mickey was that it was a bit too complicated for children to play -- it was more geared toward an "advanced" wii game crowd.

I am thrilled, however, that Disney has released a more kid friendly title for this holiday season in Disney Universe.

Disney Universe is a puzzle game which allows players to dress their little blue "mii" up in Disney character costumes and complete tasks in a score of iconic Disney worlds which have been taken over by evil robots. It's rather simple to play, so is good for newbie wii players and kids will enjoy being able to dress up as their characters from their favorite movies.

Spotlight: One to Pre-Order

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is set for release on November 20th, 2011, but is already available for Pre-Order.

This game looks pretty cool. I grew up with Zelda, having played the original game back in the days of the N64 console. This game does require the use of Wii MotionPlus, so if you don't yet have that type of controller, you may want to pick one up...

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword introduces full motion control enabled by the Wii MotionPlus accessory, which synchronizes your movements with Link's actions while offering intuitive play control. With the Wii MotionPlus accessory, every movement of Link's sword matches your motion with exact precision. If you motion left to right, Link swings from left to right.

I can't offer much of a "review" of this game yet since I have not played, so here's a Review from the experts at IGN:
