A Mother And Daughter's Thoughts

I created this with the help of my 4 year old daughter. I really wanted to share with everyone what our favorite books are to read together. I always see so many different reviews on books, but I never really see anything that tells what the kids like about the books. So I thought I would change things up a little bit and not only give you my thoughts on the books, but to also give you a child's perspective.

How did I come to select the books that you will see here? I sat down with my daughter and I asked her what her favorite books were to read. So every book that is featured here was picked by my 4 year old daughter. I really hope that you enjoy our picks!

Duck on a Bike

By: David Shannon

One day down on the farm, Duck got a wild idea. I bet I could ride a bike, he thought. He waddled over to where a boy had parked his bike, and climbed on, and began to ride. At first he rode slowly and he wobbled a lot, but it was fun! Duck rides past Sheep, Horse, and all the other barnyard animals and when a group of kids ride by on their bikes, leaving them to go into the farmhouse all of the animals get to ride bikes, just like Duck! Make sure you do not miss the last page!

The Rainbow Fish

By: Marcus Pfister

This cautionary tale about selfishness and vanity has trouble staying afloat. Rainbow Fish, "the most beautiful fish in the entire ocean," refuses to share his prized iridescent scales--which, indeed, flash and sparkle like prisms as each page is turned. When his greed leaves him without friends or admirers, the lonely fish seeks advice from the wise octopus, who counsels him to give away his beauty and "discover how to be happy."

Miss Spider's Tea Party

By: David Kirk

"you must agree," Miss Spider said,
"My shape is fine and round,
A countenance agreeable,
As any can be found.
So why do insects run away,
As they catch sight of me.
When all that I am trying to do,
Is ask them in for tea?"

So wonders a solitary Miss Spider, unaware that her fellow bugs, terribly afraid of a creature so seemingly different, dare not even consider attending her party. Until...as events unfold, they see how gracious a spider she really is.

"Stand Back," Said the Elephant, "I'm Going to Sneeze!"

By: Patricia Thomas

All the animals are in a panic. The elephant's sneeze would blow the monkeys out of the trees, the feathers off the birds, the stripes off the zebra. Even the fish and the fly, the crocodile and the kangaroo, know what a catastrophe that sneeze would be. "Please don't sneeze!" they beg...

Quick as a Cricket

By: Audrey Wood

Toddlers love it for the singsong phrases and silly, endearing illustrations, which feature a boy mimicking different kinds of animals. At one point, he is pictured sipping tea formally with a fancy poodle ("I'm as tame as a poodle") and on the very next page he is swinging through trees ("I'm as wild as a chimp"). Whether brave or shy, strong or weak, in the end the young boy celebrates all different, apparently contradictory parts of himself. With a confident grin, he lifts his arms up and declares, "Put it all together and you've got ME!"
