Top 10 Things To Do On Friday Night
Ranked #642 in Holidays & Celebrations, #7,451 overall
It's Friday Night! What Do You Want To Do?
The work week is over and TGIF! But what's so great about Friday if you ain't got nothin' goin' on? Read on for my Top 10 fun things to do with a weekend ahead. There are things to do with friends, things to do by yourself and things to do when you're not sure if you're with friends. Oh, and I added a few more than 10 just to give you some variety!
Top 10 Fun Things To Do On Friday Night
When you don't want to just sit around moping.
I've actually added a few extras in case you need some more ideas.
- Call some friends and have a potluck and game night. I love games: Balderdash, Taboo, Charades, even cards. Don't worry if you don't have the latest games. Write out a bunch of movie, song, and book titles and play charades. Play poker with pretzels. Ask everyone to bring some food to share or get some ice cream and have everyone bring an ice cream topping. Cheap fun!
- Going to a movie is fine if it's not what you do every weekend. There's just not that many great movies to see and with tickets topping $8 and popcorn and a drink at over $10, you could get some real entertainment! Go online and find out what's going on in your city. Try out a club with live music or see a local improv troupe. You can do a lot with $18.
- Go downtown and stroll. Find an outdoor (weather permitting) bistro and people-watch. It's not just for Paris.
- Like to sing? Like to sing but no one likes to hear you sing? That's why they have Karaoke! Karaoke is not just for those of you who can back up Mariah Carey. Oh no, real Karaoke is for real people who just want to belt out a few tunes. Try it and leave your inhibitions at the door. Don't feel like going out? Try American Idol Karaoke Revolution for PS2. Paula and Simon will even tell you if you should head to Hollywood!
- I have to add going out to dinner only because it's one of my favorite things to do. I cook all week long and ocassionally, I like to have someone else serve me. To stir things up a bit, try a restaurant you've never tried before. Maybe a hole in the wall whose name you can't pronounce. Skip the chains and visit Mom & Pop's Ye Olde Soda Shoppe.
- Want to save the money (or calories)? Just go out for some dessert or ice cream. You don't have to spend big bucks for some fun. Get some pie or just a double scoop and linger.
- Guys, don't knock it if you haven't tried it, but a bubble bath is a wonderful way to spend Friday night. Put on some music, pour a glass of wine, submerge into the silky bubbles and let the cares of the week melt away. Soak until the water goes cold. Try not to think of all the things that went wrong or what you need to do tomorrow, just savor the sensations of floating in the warmth and let your mind roam.
- Like to dance? You don't have to go to a smoke-filled bar to kick up your heels (although that's an option, too). Invite a few friends over, move the couch and loveseat out of the way and crank up the stereo. If the neighbors complain, invite them over!
- Make something fun! How about some chocolate chip cookies, a model airplane, or a picnic table? Whatever your hobby, Friday night is a great time to get out the ingredients, tools, or whatever and play until you're too tired to play anymore. Got kids? Teach them your hobby. Take your time and enjoy them while you have them.
- No Top 10 list would be complete without mentioning Squidoo! That's right - make a lens! Squidoo has some great ideas for you, and you might even make enough money to pay for some of the above-mentioned activities!
- Silly me - I had to add this one because it's one of my top 10 things to do anytime - GETTING A GREAT DEAL! Check out the great one-great-deal-a-day coupons offered at Groupon.com! Use my link to find deals like 60% off river rafting, 55% off a massage and 75% off pizza - offers are specific to your city! Perfect for Christmas shopping, too. http://www.groupon.com/r/uu2602501
Other ideas that didn't make the top 10
You can do these any night of the week - even if you're new in town!
1. Make some extra money! You can get a fun job working from home selling items on Ebay or Amazon. Like to write? Check out http://www.mylot.com/?ref=iamloved1 or write for Yahoo.
2. Go back to school. Find a community college nearby and take a class on something you've always wanted to learn. You'll meet new people and learn a skill. You can even cut costs by renting your textbooks from Chegg! Click here to find out more:
Rent a textbook from Chegg and get 10% off your next order
3. Join the YMCA or 24-Hour Fitness. You'll kill, like, 8 birds with one stone: You'll get healthier, lose weight, look great, meet people, and get out of the house. (OK, that's only 5 - I bet you can think of a few more reasons!)
4. Clean out a junk drawer. Sounds kind of boring but you'll be less stressed when there's less clutter around and isn't that the point of entertainment anyway? Less stress, more fun!
5. Here's a weird one: Be Oprah for an evening and give away money. Take the $20 you would have spent on a movie and popcorn, cash it into $1 bills and go downtown. Whenever you see someone who looks like they could use a morale boost, hand them a dollar and watch their eyes light up. Works even better with fives! Beware: some people will think you are strange and give you odd looks or comments. Not for the faint of heart.
5. Take a minute to figure out what's wrong with this list. Good for you!
6. This idea was sent in by a reader of this lens: Take a hot bath and go to bed early! Soak in some healing bath salts, like the ones you can get at www.GodsCountryBotanicals.com, then hit the hay. Research has found that sleeping a full night not only helps you lose fat, it literally makes you smarter and better able to handle routine tasks.
7. Here's a fun idea: Make some free business cards! Don't have a business? How about making some cards with your name and email address for those times when someone asks and you don't have a pen. Or maybe you could make some cards that say, "Great job, jerk! You took up more parking places than you need because your car cost more than my arm and my leg!" or "Become my friend on Facebook!" and leave them on bulletin boards. The possibilities are deep and wide. Get free cards here: http://vistaprint.tellapal.com/a/clk/n47ty
8. Try your hand at candlemaking. It's easy, affordable and they make great gifts - better than the toxic artificially-scented garbage you can buy at the mall!
