It's Friday Night! What Do You Want To Do?
Top 10 Fun Things To Do On Friday Night
When you just don't want to sit around moping.
- Call some friends and have a potluck and game night. I love games: Balderdash, Taboo, Charades, even cards. Don't worry if you don't have the latest games. Write out a bunch of movie, song, and book titles and play charades. Play poker with pretzels. Ask everyone to bring some food to share or get some ice cream and have everyone bring an ice cream topping. Cheap fun!
- Going to a movie is fine if it's not what you do every weekend. There's just not that many great movies to see and with tickets topping $8 and popcorn and a drink at over $10, you could get some real entertainment! Go online and find out what's going on in your city. Try out a club with live music or see a local improv troupe (like mine!). You can do a lot with $18.
- Go downtown and stroll. Find an outdoor (weather permitting) bistro and people-watch. It's not just for Paris.
- Like to sing? Like to sing but no one likes to hear you sing? That's why they have Karaoke! Karaoke is not just for those of you who can back up Mariah Carey. Oh no, real Karaoke is for real people who just want to belt out a few tunes. Try it and leave your inhibitions at the door. Don't feel like going out? Try American Idol Karaoke Revolution for PS2. Paula and Simon will even tell you if you should head to Hollywood!
- I have to add going out to dinner only because it's one of my favorite things to do. I cook all week long and ocassionally, I like to have someone else serve me. To stir things up a bit, try a restaurant you've never tried before. Maybe a hole in the wall whose name you can't pronounce. Skip the chains and visit Mom & Pop's Ye Olde Soda Shoppe.
- Want to save the money (or calories)? Just go out for some dessert or ice cream. You don't have to spend big bucks for some fun. Get some pie or just a double scoop and linger.
- Guys, don't knock it if you haven't tried it, but a bubble bath is a wonderful way to spend Friday night. Put on some music, pour a glass of wine, submerge into the silky bubbles and let the cares of the week melt away. Soak until the water goes cold. Try not to think of all the things that went wrong or what you need to do tomorrow, just savor the sensations of floating in the warmth and let your mind roam.
- Like to dance? You don't have to go to a smoke-filled bar to kick up your heels (although that's an option, too). Invite a few friends over, move the couch and loveseat out of the way and crank up the stereo. If the neighbors complain, invite them over!
- Make something fun! How about some chocolate chip cookies, a model airplane, or a picnic table? Whatever your hobby, Friday night is a great time to get out the ingredients, tools, or whatever and play until you're too tired to play anymore. Got kids? Teach them your hobby. Take your time and enjoy them while you have them.
- No Top 10 list would be complete without mentioning Squidoo! That's right - make a lens! Squidoo has some great ideas for you, and you might even make enough money to pay for some of the above-mentioned activities!
- I know I said "Top 10" but this is too good to leave off. If your friends live too far to come over, talk to them on your computer for free! You can even call overseas for just pennies! Crystal clear sound. Just click on the Skype link below and sign up for your free account.

Some of the necessities
Other ideas that didn't make the top 10
You can do these any night of the week - even if you're new in town!
2. Join the YMCA or 24-Hour Fitness. You'll kill, like, 8 birds with one stone: You'll get healthier, lose weight, look great, meet people, and get out of the house. (OK, that's only 5 - I bet you can think of a few more reasons!)
3. Clean out a junk drawer. Sounds kind of boring but you'll be less stressed when there's less clutter around and isn't that the point of entertainment anyway? Less stress, more fun!
4. Here's a weird one: Give away money. Take the $20 you would have spent on a movie and popcorn, cash it into $1 bills and go downtown. Whenever you see someone who looks like they could use a morale boost, hand them a dollar and watch their eyes light up. Works even better with fives! (This idea was a blatant rip-off from Oprah - but she gave away big bucks.)
5. Personalize a book for that great kid in your life:
6. Personalize some M&M's for your next party, wedding, graduation or ground-breaking!
7. Save some money! Get cash back when you shop online. Get your free account on Ebates.com by clicking here. I've received over $117 back so far with no extra hassle. http://www.ebates.com/rf.do?referrerid=XYcja4PM7xs%3D

- Game night is a great suggestion and something I love to do. Also, in many cities--big and small--around the U.S., First Friday Art Walk is catching on. We have one here in Flagstaff, Arizona, on the first Friday night of each month. It's a great excuse to get out, walk around our wonderful downtown and socialize, while viewing some wonderful artwork.

- Any of these activities would be great to do not just on Friday night but any night of the week! Personally, I believe TGIF means, "I want to quit my job!" That's how I feel anyway! If I had the resources to quit my job and earn income by my own means, it would not matter to me what day of the week it is because I would not be focused on getting through Monday - Friday. Everyday would be a day of freedom....freedom from a boss, freedom to work any number of hours a day, freedom to take a nap in the afternoon, freedom to take a trip in the middle of the week, etc. Does anyone else feel this way?
