Top 10 Emo Bands

10) Saves The Day
Recommended Songs:

* At Your Funeral
* Eulogy

Coming out of New Jersey is the number 10 band on the list, Saves The Day. Saves The Day has been around since 1997 and have released seven albums.

09) The Smiths
Recommended Songs:

* Panic
* Ask

The oldest band on the list comes in at number 9 and is The Smiths. Headed by front man Morrissey and guitarist John Mahe, The Smiths played together from 1982-1987. During that time they released four albums and still have a strong following. Many would speculate that The Smiths were more of an indie or punk band, but I disagree. Morrisey's songs definitely had a depressing yet beautifully happy tone to them.

08) The Weakerthans
Recommended Songs:

* The Reasons
* Plea from a Cat Named Virtute

The Weakerthans are a Canadian emo band that focuses primarily on great melodies and laid back songs.

07) Death Cab For Cutie
Recommended Songs:

* Photobooth
* The Song of Settling

Death Cab For Cutie has been receiving a good amount of mainstream attention the last couple of years, but there earlier work still is very dark, yet uplifting.

Skinny Denim

06) Joy Division
Recommended Songs:

* Love Will Tear Us Apart

The story of Joy Division is a dark and sad story. The lead singer, Ian Curtis, suffered from Epilepsy and would often have seizures on stage when the band was performing. Curtis eventually committed suicide as his health was not good as a result of his epilepsy. However, Joy Division created some excellent music and deserves to be remembered. Definitely a top emo band that deserves a listen.

05) The Get Up Kids
Recommended Songs:

* Overdue
* Close To Me

Coming out of Kansas City, Missouri is The Get Up Kids. Also, countless bands have stated that TGUK inspired them including Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Midtown, The Early November, Hellogoodbye.

04) Jimmy Eat World
If you have not heard about JEW you must have been living under a rock for the past couple years.

Recommended Songs:

* Lucky Denver Mint
* No Sensitivity

03) The Promise Ring
Recommended Songs:

* Happiness is All The Rage
* Emergency, Emergency

All right! My namesake, please check out this band!

02) Weezer
Recommended Songs:

* Pink Triangle
* I Just Threw Out The Love of My Dreams

A lot of critics consider Weezer to be the band that brought emo to mainstream, as Pinkerton influenced the current sound of emotional rock.

01) Sunny Day Real Estate
Recommended Songs:

* Seven

Sunny Day Real Estate was the band that brought emo music from an underground style to the mainstream. The band was very odd, according the allmusic.com, "The group was shrouded in mystery from the get-go: they released only one picture to the press; conducted one interview; and, for some still-unknown reason, never played a show in the state of California with all four members." Whatever the reason for the anonymity, the band succeeded in creating several awesome emo albums.

    That is because all those bands are an offshoot of Weezer. Weezer has been around since the early 90's waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before emo culture.

    Anyway emo girls are hot!

    I don't think Weezer counts as an emo band. They don't seem to have the musical style as common to most emo bands such as Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, My Chemical Romance, Hawthorne Heigts(I think they're emo rock), and Bullet For My Valentine (They count too, right?)
