Film schools are the only place in the industry that you can find people cutting up their original film or working in reversal film technology. Film is a difficult technology to master and can be made even more difficult when students work in the manner and with tools that are no longer standard. Film schools are mainly designed for those who want to learn all about what it takes to make a movie. Although film colleges do not guarantee successful careers in Hollywood, they can broaden your range of skills, which can help to open doors.
Students are taught writing, scripting and directing films, in order to get a hands-on experience. Students in the introductory film classes are introduced to the elements of pre-production, production, and post production. By the end of the course, students will have completed an original music video, mini-feature, or public service announcement. Students will have to designate all the available equipment they need for their production including: shot lists, crew list, talent list, location approvals, schedules, budgets and scripts. Once that is completed, the faculty will give shoot approval so the equipment can be checked out.
Students will learn to make demo reels, animated and live action films. Students have the opportunity to learn under faculty that consists of working professionals who hold years experience in the film and TV industry. Training includes non-linear editing, compositing and visual effects techniques with industry standard computer technology. You will be able to gain real-world experience by working on various projects that cover the entire production process, acting as a crew member on a number of shoots, in studio and on location.
Film students will inevitably develop an invaluable network of classmates at our school that often provide opportunities for future work in the film industry. Students from all diverse backgrounds, from different countries and from all walks of life are a welcome addition.
Various methods involved in movie making, including film production, film theory, and screen writing are taught. Practical knowledge and intern programs are included as part of the curriculum. Various debates have been made over the years on the importance of film school in allowing one to enter the film industry . The rise of independent filmmaking and digital video have changed this debate somewhat, as anyone with a few thousand dollars in seed money can shoot their own film, with little formal knowledge of the industry.
