Top Horror Movies
If you're a horror movie buff like myself, sometimes you'll search the web for a list of top horror movies. They may have them ranked from 1 to 100. Sure there are some movies that obviously leave a lot to be desired but when it comes down to the nitty gritty I think the top horror movies keep you on the edge of your seat cause you never quite know when they're going to grab you. I thought I'd do a lens on movies that genuinely have a major scare factor and a note on why it might be worth your while, if you dare! Pretend you just heard a big scary laugh.

Nightmare On Elm Street
This is the trailer from the original and in my opinion the best of the series. I know we're all familiar with it but I always remember after seeing it for the first time thinking it was one of the scariest movies I'd ever seen. If you haven't seen it for awhile those gotcha moments might just get you again and if you've never seen it, look out. 1984, Directed and written by Wes Craven, Starring Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon, Ronee Blakely, Johnny Depp and Robert Englund as the ghost of a child murderer stalking the dreams of the children whose parents killed him. Rated R

Wrong Turn
If you don't speak German I apologize for the trailer but you still get the gist of it. Wrong Turn has to be in the top horror movies list. It involves a group of people being tracked down by in-bred mutant cannibals in the back woods of West Virginia. Loaded with plenty of scream points from beginning to end. There is also a Wrong Turn 2 out now but I preferred the original and also a Wrong Turn 3 coming out in 2009. 2003 Directed by Rob Schmidt, Written by Alan B. McElroy, Starring Desmond Harrington, Eliza Dushku, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Jeremy Sisto.

Jeepers Creepers
This movie packs a scare factor punch. I like it when they come up with a new creature or at least new to me and it turns out this well. A brother and sister happen on what appears to be a guy throwing a wrapped body into a sewer pipe and end up being pursued by an evil creature. This one really delivers! 2001, directed and written by Victor Salva, starring Justin Long and Gina Phillips, Rated R

Psycho
Quite possibly the best of all time, the original psycho in black and white without all of today's great effects is definitely a movie you wouldn't want to watch alone if it's the first time or if you haven't seen it in awhile. It is in fact a masterpiece and should be seen by all horror movie buffs. A young woman has stolen money from her boss and deals with frightening encounters at an out of the way motel. 1960 directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Written by Robert Bloch screenplay by Joseph Stefano, Starring Janet Leigh, Anthony Perkins and Vera Miles.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre
If this movie doesn't scare you, you may be immune. A group of teenagers set out to check a grave site of one of their Grandfathers due to some vandalizing that's been occurring at the cemetery. They unwittingly pickup a hitchhiker whom isn't quite right. After a tussle and one of them getting cut with a knife. They manage to eject the no longer welcome passenger.
They decide to go by the Grandfather's old house and while looking for a swimming hole happen on a family of cannibalistic psychopaths related to their banished passenger and it's a scream from there. There are sequels and I think a remake of this film but you can't beat the original. 1974 directed by Tobe Hooper, written by Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel, starring Marilyn Burns, Allen Danziger and Gunnar Hansen as Leatherface.

Pumpkinhead
Monster movies are great and Pumpkinhead is very well done. It's original and very well thought out. This creature is supposed to be based based upon appalachian lore where someone who's been wronged can conjure up this demon known as Pumpkinhead to take revenge.

- I used to be a horror movie JUNKIE, especially in junior high school. I'm more of a suspense-type movie buff now, but I still like a good horror flick once in a while! Great lens, and it's good to see a review of the movies instead of just a long list. Hope you'll visit my Retro Pinup Calendars lens.
