The importance of TOPICABILITY ...

Ah, the importance of being TOPICAL! Inspired by Squidoo, I'm announcing the launch of Topicability : The Blog making its debut on April 8, 2008! Topicability : that which is relevant, of current interest, contemporary, spot-on.

Being a Giant Squid, Squid Angel, and prolific lensmaster, I have learned first-hand the importance of Topicability particularly in how that translates to lensranking. I'm no stranger to blogging either, having womaned Jaguar Julie : Blog On! since December 2004.

I hope that you'll take some time to check out Topicability : The Blog where I'll be featuring Squidoo lenses that I happen upon which are spot-on topical! Oh, want me to check out your lenses for its topicability? Please feel free to add it to this lens here so that I can find it!

P.S. I guess you could say that a bit of my inspiration from yesterday is the Oscar Wilde play, The Importance of Being Earnest.

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Acquires Emeril Lagasse's Media and Merchandising Business

Thursday April 3, 3:16 pm ET

Press Release Source: Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc.

NEW YORK, April 3, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. (NYSE: MSO - News) has completed the acquisition of Chef Emeril Lagasse's media and merchandising business. Lagasse retains his restaurant and foundation-related assets. The deal, which was first announced in February 2008, brings together one of the biggest brands in food-related content with MSLO's well-established expertise in the lifestyle arena. The closing of the deal was announced today on the Emmy-winning daily, nationally syndicated television series, The Martha Stewart Show.

Under the terms of the deal, MSLO has acquired the rights to the Emeril Lagasse franchise, including television programming, cookbooks, emerils.com website, and licensed kitchen and food products.

"We're delighted to have finalized this transaction and to welcome Emeril to the MSLO family. This acquisition is strategically important to our company as we continue to expand and diversify our business and represents a significant opportunity for us going forward. Emeril brings with him a strong and successful brand with superb food-related content and product lines. We look forward to applying our expertise in managing multiplatform lifestyle brands to further build and develop the high-quality Emeril franchise," said Susan Lyne, President and Chief Executive Officer of MSLO.

The purchase price was $50 million, $45 in cash and $5 million in stock, at closing, and could reach up to $70 million if certain performance targets are realized in 2011 and 2012. MSLO expects the assets to generate adjusted EBITDA of approximately $8 million in the first full year of operation, based on the Emeril business' non-GAAP financial results.

The Importance of Being Earnest

The Importance of Being Earnest -- the play

The Importance of Being Earnest is a comic play by Oscar Wilde. It premiered on 14 February 1895 at the St. James's Theatre in London.

Set in England during the late Victorian era, the play's humour derives in part from characters maintaining fictitious identities to escape unwelcome social obligations. It is replete with witty dialogue and satirizes some of the foibles and hypocrisy of late Victorian society. It has proved Wilde's most enduringly popular play.

The successful opening night of this play marked the climax of Wilde's career but also heralded his impending downfall. The Marquess of Queensberry, father of Wilde's lover Lord Alfred Douglas, attempted to enter the theatre, intending to throw vegetables at the playwright when he took his bow at the end of the show. Wilde was tipped off and Queensberry was refused admission. Nonetheless, Queensberry's hostility to Wilde was soon to trigger the latter's legal travails and eventual imprisonment. Wilde's notoriety caused the play, despite its success, to be closed after only 83 performances. He never wrote another play.

Murdoch madness
I've had a fair number of press calls on the Murdoch/Bing sillliness and here are the points I've been making:
