Reaching the top payout level for squidoo!
I have watched about 5-6 of my lenses go in and out of the top 2000 on any given day! So what is the secret to getting your lens into the top 2000 and getting that top payout from Squidoo? Exposure! If no one is visiting your page... it's not going to make it into the top 2000. Your page needs ratings, favorites, some click thrus, and so on to reach this level!
I am going to try to help you reach your goals by explaining some of the things I have learned in my few short months.

I want to start out by letting you know that I am not a squidoo expert. I started here at squidoo in Jan. 2008. In the few months that I have been here I have created 67 squidoo pages. This lens is my number 67! The purpose of this lens is to share what I have learned and to help you make the top 2000 as well!Why do you want to make the top 2000?

Most people are recommending using social bookmarking sites such as stumbleupon, digg, and so on! These are great to use and do help bring in the traffic! Plus they get your lens picked up faster by the search engines.
You can also use SquidooU, our squidoo forums! There are a ton of lensmasters who come over there for help or to share ideas!
Using the right modules can get you better lensrank!

So many marketing books are business fodder and fantasy. Clever words penned by ladies and gentlemen who are more impressed with themselves than with the need to get good information in the hands of people who need it to grow their businesses.
If there's one thing that sets this book apart from those types that I mentioned, it's the practical, valuable nature of the information inside. Polls allow the user to interact with your page, and the more interaction within your page the better your lensrank will be! Plus polls add content to your page! You can even use the poll to add specific keywords to your page.
This is the Links Voting Plexo
You can add links and your visitors can vote those links up or down!
The link voting plexo is a great way to get your visitors to interact with your lens. Add links that relate to your topic and your visitors will vote those up or down according to their preference. When they vote on these links it will give your lens a small boost during the next lensrank update!
Plus, adding links gives the user something to click on, which will result in a "clickout", and those help boost lensrank!

So how can you get people to comment?

The main thing is just try to encourage the visitor to leave a comment! Try to get creative!
Adding comments is a really good way to get people to come and check out your lenses. Each comment you leave will also leave a link to your lensmaster profile. Most lensmasters will visit the person who left a comment, often times going on to leave some stars and comment themselves on your pages!

- Great tips! I was not aware how important it is to have users INTERACT with your lens. I thought the Poll module, and others, were just cute filler. I'll definitely be adding at least one interactive module to all my lenses in the future.

- Lots of great info Thomas -- I can remember > 6 months ago when I saw ~ 2 dozen lenses hit the top tier, but that was way before Squidoo hit the mega lens quantity numbers. Being blessed by an angel for a lens that is teetering on the outskirts of the top tier certainly helps as well. And, should a couple of angels spread their stardust, that can have magical influence on whether a lens shoots into the top tier and actually even stays there for a long time. It's a lot of factors -- great content, compelling read, traffic, clickouts, fans, and Google other search engines factoring into play. ;)
