The Best, Hottest, Top PS3 Games
This lens lists the top selling PS3 games, PS3 exclusive games, upcoming PS3 games with release dates, and information about backward compatibility for PS2 games.

Playstation 3 Backwards Compatibility
Can you play original Playstaion and PS2 games on the Playstation 3? The short answer is YES. The long answer is slightly more complicated.
On Sony's original two PS3 systems, the 20gb and 60gb, the design included a PS2 chip set. This allowed for almost perfect backwards compatibility with PS2 and PS1 games. While there are some exceptions to this, they are mostly found only in games that use outside peripherals. So games like Guitar Hero and Dance, Dance Revolution may not play.
In the currently available systems, Sony has removed the PS2 chip set in favor of a software emulation system which doesn't offer nearly as much compatibility. And unfortunately, the emulator is only included in the 80gb system. So this system is about 70% backwards compatible, according to Sony. There's no available list of which games work for sure, but it is certain that games using peripherals will NOT work.
The 40gb PS3, which is the only system being produced since Sony halted production of the 80gb, has no emulation software at all. So it is essentially not backwards compatible. We can only hope the powers that be will correct this issue sometime soon.

There's always going to be some controversy about what the best selling games are for any system, and that includes the PS3. There are quite a few reasons for this.
First, some of the big retailers take pre-orders for popular games before they are released. Of those retailers, some of them count the pre-orders as sales, while others don't. This skews the numbers.
Another problem is that the Top Selling Games list changes from one day to the next. And it can be different from one retailer to the next. The stores certainly don't cooperate with each other to tally sales. We could use numbers from the distributor, but that wouldn't account for the games that never sell and are returned.
Then there's the question of how you should figure the most popular games. Do you count the top seller's for the week? Or do you count total sales for all time. Or do you take a poll?
Finally, there's the question of how you incorporate the secondary markets, like eBay. Massive numbers of new and used video games are sold in that venue. Trying to keep track of it would be impossible.
So the best we can do is chose a parameter and try to temper it with experience. With that in mind, here's our list of some of the best selling games for the last month.
