The Best Of The Underground.

This site is dedicated to the true hip hop artists out there. The ones that do it for the love of the mic, not for fame and fortune. They say what they want, when they want, because they actually have something relevant to say. No, they may not have their own show on TV or their own clothing line like P.Diddy, but they CAN rap... which is what hip hop is about right? So if you are ready to take your training wheels off and put that Jay-Z CD down scroll down and check out the best that the underground has to offer. If you are already have a knowledge of underground hip hop and think another artist should be on the list just leave a comment and I'll see what I can do. Cheers!

Awesome Program For Making Your Own Beats!

Oh yea, I'm working on more in depth individual lenses for each artist, some are done and listed in the respective section, and the rest are to come.

I. Atmosphere

Atmosphere, which consists of rapper "Slug,"(Sean Daley, "Slug" stands for "Sean Likes Ugly Girls) and producer "Ant," has been ripping up the world of underground hip hop since they hit the scene over ten years ago. You can hear the dedication and love for the art on every track of their albums.

Atmosphere is on the label Rhymesayers along with Brother Ali, Abstract Rude and many other underground hip hop artists from Minneapolis Minnesota and around the country. Slug continually shows his love for his work and his dedication to his fans. Many artists you will wait years and years between major album releases, which is also true with Slug, but he has a way of always pleasing his fans by releasing several smaller albums in between major releases. Last winter (07') Slug released a Christmas present to all his fans, a 12 track album "Strictly Leakage," for absolutely free.

On this lens you will find a comprehensive collection of Atmosphere's discography with individual reviews on each and every one of his albums, and links to other lenses I have created with full lyrics and as many of the actual tracks from each album that I can muster up! ENJOY!(Be patient this may take a while, but I'm working on it!)

UPDATE:
I recently had the privilege to see Atmosphere live at "Toad's Place" in New Haven Connecticut. Atmosphere was the headliner with "Abstract Rude," and "Blueprint" as the opening acts(not too shabby). I managed to actually mean Atmosphere's producer ANT and Abstract Rude and chat for a minute with them, and their demeanor was not what you would expect from famous musicians performing for a club packed to the gills. Abstract Rude came off as almost shy and very soft spoken, and ANT is one of the most friendly, down to earth guys that I have ever met that will be glad to stop and give an autograph, take a picture, and thank you over and over again for coming out to the show.

II. Brother Ali

From Minneapolis Minnesota, Brother Ali, along with Rhymesayers Entertainment has changed the way the world looks at Underground Hip Hop. Yes, he IS albino, he is also one of the top rappers in the game today, listen to his track "Take Me Home," from his latest album "The Undisputed Truth," and check out my full Brother Ali Lens.

Brother Ali, along with the other artists on Rhymesayers create the music that THEY want to portraying the message that THEY want to portray. Not to mention the fact that they are much better rappers than any of the main stream puppet rappers you see on music videos "rapping" about nothing for a fat paycheck. Similar to Immortal Technique, Brother Ali does what he does because he loves it and wants to spread a message whether he is getting paid or not. I uploaded a music video below for one of his singles from his last album, and my personal favorite so far, "The Undisputed Truth," check it out.

III. Immortal Technique

Immortal Technique(Felipe Coronel), born in Harlem, has been bringing awareness to all his listeners since he dropped "Revolutionary Vol. 1" in 2001.

Immortal Technique is dedicated to being Lyrical, in bringing a message to his audience and exposing the truth about our government and political issues that the average American just takes at face value. Growing up in Harlem, and actually having spent some time in prison, Immortal Technique is not just another lame impersonator, he speaks what he feels and thinks, and speaks it from experience. For a more in depth biography of Immortal Technique check him out on Wikipedia.

"Revolutionary Vol. 1"
This is Technique's first album, which he is known for selling out of the trunk of his car. Still my favorite album of his, Revolutionary Vol. 1 boasts some of Immortal Technique's better known tracks including "Dance with the Devil," (video below).

"Revolutionary Vol. 2"
This album is a little more lyrically intricate; Revolutionary Vol. 2 includes tracks "Industrial Revolution," "Internally Bleeding," and "The 4th Branch." This album contains many guest appearances from artists including Akir and Pumkinhead.

"The 3RD World"
It takes quite a few listens of this album to really appreciate the message that Technique is portraying. I'm not a big fan of Green Lantern, and if you have heard this album, I assume you agree that if you heard the word "INVASION!" yelled one more time you would have put the album in the microwave. All in all, lyrically a great album, but if you are looking for an album to groove to maybe pick up Revolutionary Vol. 1 to start off with.
