Top Toys for Christmas - Help is Here
I just spent the past few worried days thinking I wouldn't be able to get hold of a Wii. OK, so that's more of a present for... ahem... for Daddy this year so it's not like the kids would have been upset had I been unable to secure one. Mind you, the sight of a 34 year old bawling his eyes out on Christmas day, screaming "I want a Wii, I want a Wii," whilst his two-year old son is pointing to the bathroom... shudder! Anyway, I got one. SO THERE.
So what are the other toys to have this year, that you'll be fighting with other parents over in the run up to Christmas.
The First Noel...
Bad Pun, Worse Beard
Are You Smarter Than A 10 Year OldIf I pay you millions each year, will you promise to wear a beard for your whole career? Deal or No Deal? Yup - he's back. Good ol' Noel 'Tidybeard' Edmonds is now pushing the latest Sky Show - "Are You Smarter Than a 10 Year Old?" - and here's the spin-off board game, to make him even more money.
Just answer 11 school curriculum-based questions that the average 10 year old knows to claim victory, and avoid the humiliation of having to proclaim "I am NOT smarter than a ten year old!" For 2-4 players, and promises to be a popular one for putting Uncle Fred in his place after Christmas lunch...

I Will Exterminate! I Will Exterminate!
Doctor Who Dalek Sec Hybrid Voice Changer...
Doctor Who Dalek Sec Hybrid Voice Changer...Ok. This is one of THE Top Toys For Christmas this year! If you buy your young son anything this year, it's got to be this. Looks grotesque (so obviously kids will love it), and allows your pre-teen terror to change his voice to that of a Dalek. If you've never heard a Dalek before, it's like a cross between Stephen Hawking and the SMASH Robots. If you know neither of those, then you're just too young!
Snap 'em up when you see them, as these are likely to fly off the shelves and be as rare as hen's teeth or Wii's!

For The Girls
Or Boys I Suppose. Wouldn't want to stereotype.
Baby Annabell Version 4Being the father of a daughter I can attest to the success of Baby Annabell, and the value we've had out of the various dolls purchased. Well, we are now up to Version 4.
What's different in this version? She now reacts to the sound of the "mother's" voice and turns her head in that direction, as if she's really listening! Or, more likely on Christmas Day at least, in the direction of Uncle Fred's loud drunken snoring in front of the TV!
Get it for your daughter. She won't be disappointed (unless she's in her twenties you understand...)
£29.44 from Toys R Us
Barbie Girls MP3 Player
Just when you thought Bratz had gained world domination, Matel fights back with it's latest initiative to win back vital ground. Basically BarbieGirls.com is a virtual Barbie world where your daughters can go to the mall, shop, customise their characters with hair and clothes, and (apparently) even adopt a pet!
It's either this, or buy 'em Resident Evil 4 on the Wii!
£49.99 from Amazon
Puppy Grows and Knows Your Name
This dog actually grows! It's a mechanised toy dog that when bought is at it's smallest size. Then, as if by magic, over the period of 1 week - it grows to it's fullest size! The puppy will also learn words as it grows, and can be customised to some extent using the CD-ROM that comes with it.

Fly! Dragon! Fly!
C'mon dads. Let the kids have a go!
Flytech DragonflyI'm going to have to buy one of these dragonfly's for my brother I reckon. Sure, he's 33 - but there's no age limit to enjoying something like this. Imagine terrorising Aunt Molly as she's helping to set the table, or cousin Jon telling you tales about how interesting Accountancy really is (no, really, it is...)
One word - Fantastic!!!
£29.87 from Amazon
Bzzzz.....
Here it is in action!
WowWee Flytech DragonFly
This is the awesome robotic Dragonfly from WowWee that should be hitting the stores in March. It looks absolutely fantastic and incredibly flies using flapping wigs rather than propellers! Check it out!

Say What, Goldenballs?
Nothing (promise!) to do with the Beckhams!
Say What? This is great fun! Basically on the gizmo, you have five coloured balls. Each ball represents a word from a popular phrase. You then have to re-arrange the balls to get the phrase in the right order. Confused...?
Ok, let's say the balls are lined up in whatever order to begin with, and it speaks the phrase:
My Dear | I Don't | Damn | Frankly | Give a
Then just re-arrange the balls to put the phrase in the correct order!
Simple concept, but highly original! Great implementation. This is going to be huge fun for everyone over Christmas. A classic in the making.

Golden Balls
Worth buying just for the chance of saying "Right, you've all enjoyed the stuffing, let's retire to the lounge and play with my GoldenBalls..."
This board game allows you to re-enact the popular TV quiz game GoldenBalls. "Popular" is relative of course. I admit to having never the seen the show, but that doesn't mean it's not good (although I do have impeccable taste when it comes to choosing TV shows...) nor that the game itself isn't good. I just haven't played it yet myself that's all.
£17.99 from Amazon UK
For the younger ones
Ahhh, bless 'em
In The Night Garden - Blanket Time IgglepiggleI must admit, I'm quite fond of 'In the Night Garden' now. Not sure what that says about a 34 year old, but all the same, it's extremely relaxing.
Igglepiggle is one of my favourite... ahem... my son's favourite characters in the show. £34.95 from Amazon UK
Oh, and yeah, my son's 2 years old just in case you were thinking he was like 15 or something!
Roary! R/C car
"Rooooaary! The Raacing Caaar!" Once you've heard the theme tune to this great programme, I guarantee you'll be singing it in your head for the whole day.
A nice little remote controlled racing car for dad...er... the kids to play with (there's a theme running through here...) £22.94 from Toys R Us
A Game the whole family can play
Yup - even better than Scrabble and Triv Pursuit!
If you asked me to name just one for my Top Toys For Christmas this would be it! These have been jumping off shelves like... well, like some strange minature kangaroo shelf-jumping creature. I am of course, talking about...The Nintendo Wii
This console has redefined the concept of gaming. People, like myself, who were neither interested or didn't have the time to sit for hours in front of a console, endlessly hacking away at zombies, have taken to this BIG TIME!!!
Lured by the adverts showing whole families having an absolute whale of a time, mums and dads are rushing out to buy the Wii using the excuse that "the kids will like it".
Well, the kids will love it, and so will mum, dad, grandad, uncle, cousins, etc... in fact, you'll probably have the neighbours poking their heads in when they hear the amount of fun everyone is having!
Get one. Hurry. Don't miss out!
Unfortunately at the moment, getting one at the moment is like trying to find a cheery episode of Eastenders in the BBC archives. Try HERE for updates
