Welcome to Toronto
Toronto, located on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario, is the largest city in Canada and the capital of Ontario. Also known as the GTA (The Greater Toronto Area), residents of Toronto are called Torontonians.
Toronto is known to some as the Queen City, to others as the Big Smoke. To most people, it is simply the cosmopolitan hub of Canada, where you can walk for blocks never hearing a word of English or french, but rather Chinese, Portuguese, Italian, Hindi or some other dialect. Not surproisingly, the spread of ethnic restaurants is more than merely mouthwatering.
Toronto is also a major tourist destination, featuring the Metro Toronto Zoo, the famed CN Tower, Casa Loma, The Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto Island (especially for children), the Royal Ontario Museum and the Ontario Science Center. North of the City is Canada's Wonderland amusement park. The downtown features plenty of theatre, and of course lots of great dining.
Local sports teams include the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Toronto Argonauts.
As you can see in the picture the CN Tower, the world's tallest free standing structure, defines the Toronto skyline.
