Glimpse A Bookcase, Glimpse An Inner Life
Whenever I visit anyone, anywhere, I always browse through their books. Library, hotel lobby, friend, acquaintance, doctor or dentist's office...it doesn't matter. Of course I ask for permission but no one ever refuses. I think you can get to know a lot about a person by perusing the contents of their bookcases.
Do they have lots and lots of books? Do they have a few cherished ones? What are the subjects? How do they arrange the books? Are they messy or haphazard, or are they methodical? And relevant to the age of the person, what have they chosen to keep after a lifetime of experience?
Or if they are parents, what do they choose/allow for their children?
So here are the contents of my own particular bookcase...and you will know more about me after your tour is over. Enjoy!

This is by far the largest category
Angel of the Dawn © 2009 by Richard BurnsI have religious texts from many religions, and little spiritual postings in many magazines and pamphlets. I have studied world religion extensively.
Eastern, Western, old and new, extreme to mainstream, I have
probably studied about it.
Just for the sheer story telling power of it, one of my favorites is Autobiography of a Yogi, by Paramahansa Yogananda. I loved it so much that I bought a leather copy!
I also have several Bibles, the Bagavad Gita, and many spiritual books, obscure and not so obscure, including very old ones and many books about angels.

i carry your heart with me
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear, and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are in my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which

- Fun way to tour your library. I decided about ten years ago to give away about half my books. Half of those I wish I had back. I no longer save the Geographics. Book reducing is very hard to do. My husband put his books in a box and they are in the attic. New books are filling the shelves fast.

- We've moved several times in the last 10 years. Moving the books is always an ordeal. We have lots of books like you. And no matter how many bookcases we have it is never enough. Books are wonderful.

- I love books, too. I got rid of a LOT of books a little while ago (it was hard to do!) but I still have my most treasured ones, mostly about personal growth and spirituality. Blessed!

- What a great tour! We've run out of bookcases too. We have books all over the house and in every room. While that's nice, I'd still love to have enough shelving. Some of my books are always within reach, and then depending on what I'm working on, I rotate the others. I loved seeing what you've got on your bookcase. :-)

- Books rule! Great idea for a lens. Liked it a lot. I had a friend who, when visiting from out of town, would spend the first 15 or so minutes of the visit just looking at my books. He did that with everyone ;) Another friend does the same with CDs! It's like they must tour this stuff before they can start conversing... 5*****
