Cars Collection with Tow MaterWhen I was a child, our parents would send us outside to play. We made mud-pies and threw dirt clods. We had a secret hide-out in the woods next to our house. No computers, no techie gadgets - just our bicycles and imaginations. (Okay - my parents would say we had a lot more than that, of course!) My point is, today's children "play" in different circumstances than children did 20-30 years ago. If it doesn't have a battery, a keyboard, or a plug, just what is it we expect them to do, they ask? The answer, of course, is "use your brain"!


Brand New Lights and Sounds MaterNow, we're thrilled when our kids play with anything other than the computer or a game station. Toys that require the use of the imagination and a made-up environment are good for boosting creativity. It's okay if children take a few cars, make road in the carpet and pretend those cars are talking to each other. This is how they learn.

These are some wonderful hands-on cars that will entertain children. Some have lights or race when they've been shaken. Some are just those great, old die-cast cars that every kid must have hundreds of already but really, can you have too many? (OK, don't answer that! I have three boys and sometimes I think, yes, I have too many of these cars. Buckets of them. However, on a rainy day it's that bucket that comes out to keep them occupied.)

A bubble blower and a clock radio. One great Tow Mater toy for the outdoors and one to get them up so they will GO outdoors. Although, I must say, as the mother of three boys, I really thought my kids would sleep more. They don't. Out of three boys, only one is a sleeper and that's only a recent development. The oldest - a teen - has never slept more than 8 hours straight since the day he was born. Ummm...sign me up for some kid energy, please?
