We All Need Toys!
There is a common misconception that toys are only for children, and that playing with "children's toys" as an adult shows immaturity. It isn't true. A toy can satisfy a grownup's very real needs. One need is the universal need for play. Another is self-fulfillment. We'll explain both.
Importance of Toys
All animals and all humans, regardless of age, need play and relaxation in their lives. It is as important to have a source of pleasure as it is to have food - even for adults.
So... it's okay to like toys... TOY toys, right?
You bet.
What are also legitimate are toys in the classic sense. They're sold as "children's toys" because they're usually designed mostly for kids. They're designed mostly for kids because society thinks that adults don't need play and aren't allowed to have fun - even our "play" has to have some purpose like socializing or making our house look better than the neighbors'. This attitude is changing.

Even though it may seem a bit silly, does something click for you in that video?
You're not alone.
A toy can also be a celebration of current interests or a personal expression. What does the statuette of the ruthless, intelligent heroine on your shelf say about you? How about the stuffed version of the witty cartoon animal on that deep-thinking, adult-geared TV show? There's self-fulfillment.
We here at Toy of My Dreams happen to be members of Generation X. Many people our age have had difficult lives. Since everyone needs an occasional escape from the world, many GenX'ers have chosen to seek out these kinds of toys, and the toy industry is responding. There are lots of wonderful things out there that are worth even today's dear prices, made for adults who will love them wholeheartedly, just like kids - except we may tend less toward melting or shredding our toys in a spectacular display (and when we DO do that, it's for the noble purpose of posting the video online.)
So what's the problem?
Believe it or not, they don't make enough toys for grownups.
The "long tail" has a very small tip
If you frequent an online fan forum, you probably know what the "missing item" for your community is:
"If only they'd made a doll of her, she was the best character,"
"I wrote to them asking them to make it, and they said they couldn't do it,"
or the ever-popular
"Too bad the action figure looks like it lost a fight with a garbage compactor."
We've experienced all of these. One of our favorite characters, for instance, has one doll. It's tiny, it's poorly made, not enough were made, and it goes for about $500 when you can find it. But we would have saved up and spent $1000 for a good-quality one. We wanted good toys so badly we literally dreamt about them.
To fulfill our own needs, we started making our own toys. We have been able to use our talents to make the toys we most craved for ourselves. Now we'd like to do the same for others.
Get to the point already!
