When you buy toys for 4 year old boys it's quite good to think about construction. My own 4 year old boy will often play for hours building with toys such as lego and building blocks. Another highly recommended toy for a 4 year old boy are marble runs. The child can build the run and then have fun running marbles down the construction (see below for more details). Lego Construction set

Lego is a classic toy that you know is good as it has stood the test of time. Many 4 year old boys love building and construction sets are a must have toy. My own 4 year old son loves lego and will play with it for hours. He received the lego ultimate building set (405 pieces) for his 4th birthday. So far we have built cars, vehicles, houses, a windmill and a boat together. He also comes up with his own (sometimes strange!!) creations from his imagination including creatures, long vehicles and buildings. There are also some great mini sets, some of which are featured below including a castle building set, road construction set and airport building set. Car Playsets for 4 Year Old Boys

My 4 year old son has recently discovered matchbox car playsets.

We recently bought a 2nd hand Matchbox Haunted house car playset and he spent hours with his cars pushing them around inside. He picked it out himself at his Christmas fair. You can move cars over the bridge and the zoom down and round inside the house. There are spooky sounds too!

He has enjoyed it so much I'm buying him a pirate car playset for Christmas 2011. It is second hand as you can't seem to buy them new but he doesn't seem to notice and I think it's be a nice and inexpensive extra toy for him.

My own 4 year old boy received a craft box for Christmas 2010 and this has been a huge hit. He has spent ages making all kinds of things from lollipop sticks, googly eyes, stickers, felt sheets, pens, glue, glitter, string and lots more bits and pieces.
