Toys dinosaurs - cute and cuddly or fierce and scary?

Kids simply love playing with toys dinosaurs. Chances are your children will have played with dinosaurs at some point in their childhood. It is amazing that these fierce creatures have become the staple plaything for children.

There are so many varieties of toys dinosaurs to choose from. There are T Rexs - some modelled on the original version - others like Barney the purple dinosaur where imagination overrides any resemblance to the original reptile.

There are triceraptops, camarasaurus (you can see why Land before time renamed all their characters!), sauropods etc

Toys dinosaurs can be both educational and fun. Steven Spielberg and Don Bluth made a fantastic film called Land before Time which uses dinosaur characters to explore relationships, feelings etc.

Toys dinosaurs or dragons?

For years, dinosaur fossils found in China were thought to be dragons. The Chinese believe in dragon folklore and when huge fossils were found, they wrongly associated these huge remains with dragons.

To be fair to the Chinese, most of the fossils came from dinosaurs who had feathers on their bodies, arms and legs so it is easy to see why they inspired thoughts of dragons.

Just think though our kids could have been going to bed with cuddly dragons instead of Toys dinosaurs if the Chinese hadnt realised their error!
