How to gain traffic to your Squidoo lenses with search engine optimisation techniques

Would you like to attract free traffic to your squidoo lens or indeed a web-site?

SEO is consider to be the best method for this.

Find out how you can do this in a few easy steps

Everything is provided for you here in the Squidoo Tools, and all you need to do is to learn what you have to do.

I have gained a little experience in Squidoo, and I am happy to pass this info onto others, as we all work to make Squidoo a quality place.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation

It means that you create your lens in such a way that it will be attractive to those search engine spiders!

The most famous search engine is Google of course, though there are others.

If you put good quality content into your lens, the spiders will love it, and you will be progressed into their first pages, where people can actually find you!

What can you do with your Squidoo Lens to benefit from this?

In web design, metatags are used to "feed" the spiders. These are keywords, which match the searches made by surfers, each time they put a set of words into the search engine search box.

When a web-site is designed to gain the best from the search engines in terms of ratings, they gather the most popular keywords first, and then they draft the web-site around those words.

You have the option to do this with Squidoo

On the right hand side of your Squidoo page, you will find the option of "Tags", and you can place up to 40 Tags into that section.

In terms of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), these Tags are the most important part of your drafting. So please consider your Tags as a high priority and not jsut as an add-on

Drafting in Reverse!

Your first priority in drafting your lens will not change.
You need to provide good quality content, that people want to read.

However, give this a try, and see how it improves your traffic!

Once you have decided the subject of your lens, sit down and consider the keywords that people are most likely to use in searches, and form a list of these. You can place these into your lens immediately as your Tags.

There are places you can go to gather the most popular keywords for your subject. The best is Wordtracker, but they do charge for the service. There are also various free services you can use.

Once you have identified your keywords, or Tags, then you write your lens around those Tags. This means that you use these keywords or tags in the body of your wording on the lens. This compounds the effects of the Tags, and helps the spiders to push you through the traffic ratings. This will result in you getting a much better placing within Squidoo.

Choose your words with Care

I am not suggesting that you write like a zombie!

What I am suggesting is that you think about your wording very carefully.

It takes more time in the planning stage of your lens to draft your wording around the Tags, but the results will be well worth it. Time spent in careful drafting, so that your lens is attractive to the search engines will pay dividends.

Give it a try for yourself, and it will get easier each time you try.

All best wishes,

Diane
