Housetraining
You should follow a very strict routine from the beginning when house training your new puppy. While your puppy is very little it is a good idea to take him outside after he is done eating, drinking and at various times throughout the day as puppies cannot hold it for very long. This will help establish a routine. Crate training a golden retriever puppy is also a good way to start as he will not go to the bathroom in the crate and this will help him learn to hold it. If he does go in your house, always make sure you disinfect the area well, this is not only for cleanliness but also to get rid of the smell that your dog will be susceptible to. Dogs often use smell as a trigger action and this smell could trigger your dog into thinking this is where he should go. Crate Training Your Puppy
When you first start crate training a golden retriever puppy, you should set up a crate in your house near the door out of the way. Start by introducing him to the crate several times during the day. Get your puppy to go inside with a treat. When your puppy goes in, shut the door. Praise your puppy (as golden retrievers love praise), for going into the crate. After your pup has gone into the crate a few times, put a new toy into the crate, lure him in and close the door just for a couple of minutes. If he whines you can talk to him, put your fingers through the door and touch him, but do not take the pup out until he settles in. Then give lots of praise and open the door. Crate training a golden retriever is a proven method, but takes time and patients so don't get discouraged if your retriever doesn't get it the first couple of times. Just keep going. Golden Puppies love Digging
When training a golden retriever puppy, you should keep in mind that it is the nature of puppies to dig. You should give your puppy a space to dig in your yard otherwise they may try digging through your floor, couch or the bed. Give your Golden puppy a small space in the yard with a treat in a specific spot so that it doesn't damage the entire yard. Make a sand box and put his favorite toys and let him dig it out. Give the golden some praise whenever he does it right. This is also a good way to bond with your puppy. Training a golden retriever puppy
