Our dog is part of the family

When my husband and I first got our dog, we were a little daunted by the training process.  We went online and shifted through several dog training sites, hoping that the processes we could use would be there.  I want to gently encourage all wanna be pet owners to use the internet, books, friend's advice etc, just do your research before bringing your new friend in.  Make sure you will be able to provide your new friend with a good safe home, and that you are giving them great training.  After all, a family that works well together makes a better life for everyone involved.

Dog/puppy training trick we used

Getting their attention

When our dog was young, we used the following training approach to get the ball rolling. It does take some time investment, but it has paid off for us more then I can tell you. Our doggy is now 7 years old, and is as loved by our friends as she is by us. That is the value of a well trained dog.

What we did was simply this. Our dog was about 6 mo old. We would use her kibble as "treats" to reward her good behavior for the "tricks" we wanted her to do during lesson time. If she sat when we told her to, she got a piece of kibble. If she could not pay attention, her food bowl was moved out of reach. After a half an hour we would attempt the training lesson again. If she still was not interested, another half hour was waited. Eventually, a little rumble in the belly and she was waiting for our every word.

Now, don't get me wrong. I don't support animal cruelty in any way. But puppies do pay attention when they want food!

Have a great day!

Nice lense JenPark, I gave it 5 stars and it is worth every one of them.
I love dogs just as you do and therefore I created a site about mastiffs to
help fellow dog owners learn as much as they can about mastiffs and mastiff behavior.
    Kind regards
