I Thought My Maltese Was An Angel... Boy Was I Wrong

Hey. My name is Shannon and I got Sweetart about 2 years ago. As soon as I saw her, I fell in love with her tiny cute face, she looked like a sweet little angel!

But as soon as I got her home, I figured out quick enough that she was no angel! She would pee everywhere, even in my bed! I just couldn't get her potty trained for the life of me! If that wasn't bad enough, she barked all the time, at the mailman, at the school kids walking by, and anyone who came to the house.

The neighbors started complaining, and I just didn't know what to do! I tried everything...(I must admit, I even tried the more "negative" things like spanking her with newspaper, spraying her face with water, and yelling NO! NO! BAD DOG! BAD DOG!) It didn't work at all...all it managed to do was make me feel horrible.

When my neighbors threatened to call the landlord on me to complain about the barking, I decided to look for help. And what I found was a life saver. I found this awesome Maltese training guide that taught me how to train Sweetart without any kind of hitting or yelling and they made it really easy.

Sweetart is now potty trained, she stopped barking excessively (my neighbors stopped complaining thank goodness!) and she can even do some fun tricks.

If you always feel like "the bad guy" while trying to train your dog, check out the guide... it worked for me.

Love Your Maltese But Hate Their Behaviour?

Maltese dogs are a small dogs, no heavier than about six or seven pounds, that are found in wealthy homes across America. They aren't the easiest dog to come by financially and unfortunetly are not the most well behaved dogs, so they do require Maltese specific training. The small size of the Maltese dog combined with their effervescent personalities make them the perfect addition to any home, with the proper training.

Can Maltese Dogs Be Trained?

Luckily for Maltese owners around the world this is a very intelligent breed of dog with a lot to offer any household. They are small and fluffy, and easily fit in the small bags that are so stylish these days!

You'll want to learn a simple step-by-step training plan that you can follow anytime you want to train your Maltese to do something. Like other dog breeds they will be able to sit, stay, come, roll over, or do just about any of the other basic commands that people look for in an obedient pet. There are two main problems that are many Maltese owners encounter. One they seem to be more aggressive and two is they like chewing on things more than other dog breeds.

How Can I Stop My Maltese From Chewing My New Shoes?

In Maltese and many other breeds of dog the only way to cure chewing is with the proper training. Sometimes though chewing is just an expression of boredom of some sort, or because they miss you. You will want to make sure that he or she gets out and gets a good workout, and make sure that they have things around that they can chew on, like stuffed animals or a small squeaky toy. In addition, take responsibility for your pet and don't l eave anything within chewing reach that they might decide to feast on. Leather leashes, shoes, cords and wires--all of these things spell trouble if your Maltese gets a hold of them, so be sure to keep them up and out of sight.

Why Does My Maltese Bark So Much? How Do I Get Her To Stop?

As far as the barking problem goes, remember that the reason Maltese bark is to protect their owners, hoping to scare off unwanted visitors or potential 'predators.' Lucky you have a dog that cares, but the habit can get quite annoying especially when there is no danger to speak of.

I learned a great way to correct my Malteses excessive barking in the guide I read. The method is actualy is based on an easy distraction technique that the author used to training Police dogs.

With the help of a few good doggy treats and the right training, you can train your dog with the word QUIET or something similar. That way while it is okay to bark and let you know that danger may be close by, they understand that the barking need not continue if nothing is going on.

Keep in mind that your dog might be barking a lot while you are not at home, especially if they do it while you are. If your neighbors complain about barking and you have a Maltese, they are probably NOT just picking on you and your pet--these dogs do suffer from separation anxiety. To avoid this problem, it is necessary to train your Maltese to stay quiet and behaved in the case of your absence; training crates are great for this purpose.
