Restorations - Part 1

Not for the faint of heart

Restoring a 30-40 year old muscle car is brutal. Parts are scarce and not cheap. Rust is rampant, bolts are fused into the metal and animals take up residence in the interior. More often than not the car was found sitting outside rotting in the sun or in a barn with its engine pulled out and in a couple of inches of water. And these are the good candidates.

Another major factor to consider is that these were just cars Pontiac rolled off the line one by one. Orange peal was was prevalent on the paint, the spoilers and spats didn't always all line up perfectly, decals were crooked and the body panels all had waves. They were just assembly line cars meant to make a profit and not gone over with a magnifying glass for flaws.

Finally, the previous owners of the cars were typically young guys in their teens and twenties who drove them like they stole them. And why not - they were the last of the powerful V-8 engines. But the consequence often meant poorly repaired accident damage.

And this is where it all begins for us.

Restorations - Part 2

Before

This is one of our cars, it's a 1968 Nordic Blue Pontiac Firebird 400 HO. The picture was taken when we brought it in to the shop and we referred to it as the bloody stump.

Restorations - Part 3

After

This is what it looks like now. It's not complete but it looks a little nicer.
