Travel from "Brick and Mortar" To "Click and Order"
Vacation time is coming, time to start planning right? If you are in the same position as I am then all the responsibilities of planning and booking the trip are yours. So now what? Time to go down to your local travel agent and get some professional help, right? I am willing to bet my house that is not the case!The truth is that 20 years ago there were 220,000 travel agencies across the country, now there are 20,000.
Why?....The Internet and Travel Websites
Travel planning and booking has moved from "Brick and Mortar" to "Click and Order". You can't turn around anymore without tripping over a commercial or an add for Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, and Priceline. According to CNN MONEY 53% of all online spending is spent on travel. These guys are making a killing!
Here's the problem. We still need those travel agents! Why? Because if you have a problem on your vacation to Hawaii and you call customer service from one of those sites above, you are going to talk a guy in India with no clue how to help you. The people that are experienced and knowledgeable enough to help you are out of work!
There has to be a way to combine "Hi-Tech" with "Hi-Touch".

All online travel, whether it is flights, hotels, cruises, or resorts, is stored in virtual wharehouses called GDS's. This stands for Global Distribution Systems. There are four GDS's. All of the travel dotcoms access these GDS's for their inventory. Most online travel companies can only access one GDS and only one can access two. This means that when you do a search for a hotel room these websites come back with a very limited result, because they can't search all the inventory. So when a travel dotcom advertises that they have the best or lowest price it is actually a little white lie because they haven't been able to look everywhere for that "DEAL".
Bet you didn't know that!
Here's something you need to know! Rovia has access to 3 of the 4 GDS's. With the 4th soon to come! This means that Rovia searches more inventory and comes back with a broader result. Your chances of finding a better price are higher! Here is another really cool thing. Remember in the segment above when I said that we still needed travel agents? Rovia is an actual travel agency as well. If you have that same problem with your trip to Hawaii and you booked it through Rovia, when you call them for help a real live travel agent answers the phone! Problem solved.
