Simply imagine listening to the sound of the rushing surf, as the warm pacific breezes gently brush against you, as you gaze at the scenic palm trees swaying along the sandy beach. Plenty of sights to see and plenty of enjoyable moments are to be found on the spectacular pacific islands of Samoa.
For centuries, dangerous pirates, well-meaning missionaries, adventurous traders, and seafaring whalers have all swept up along the shores of the island, giving way to eerie feelings of spiritual presence along the shores. Apia appears to be gently cascading down lush hillsides with its charming villages shaded by abundant pula trees. The streets of the villages are neatly kept and full of life.
A tropical paradise, Samoa, located in the southwestern region of the Pacific Ocean, offers gloriously warm temperatures throughout the entire year. Ranging between 68 degrees and 86 degrees, the temperatures are conducive to outdoor activities. Although humid, Samoa enjoys the fresh ocean breezes that create near perfect weather. Occasionally, however, rain falls heavily and places a temporary damper on things.
The capital of Samoa, Apia, is the largest and most urban like area of the beautiful islands. Modern features have slowly crept into the area, providing fast food and businesses. Nonetheless, the area remains a picturesque location to sightsee.
Things To Do In Samoa
An entire morning can be spent exploring the beautifully restored home of the famous author, Robert Louis Stevenson. A beloved member of the community, Stevenson received an honorable celebration of his death and his reputation as the island's storyteller, which continued with the care and upkeep of his home and gravesite. His gravesite overlooks the rough surf washing up on the island of Upolu, home to the capital of Samoa, Apia, as it sits high atop a steep incline. It is on the island of Upolu in Samoa that you will find the famous Paradise Beach with its sandy beaches and swaying palms. Although gorgeous to look at, the shallow reefs and pounding surf are quite hazardous for swimming. Although local lakes and other beaches along the islands of Samoa might offer a more tranquil atmosphere, the swimming opportunity at them is much safer.
For a bit more challenging water experience than swimming, one can always go to Papasee'a Sliding Rock. The center of attraction here is an entertaining and exhilarating ride down a 16 and a half-foot slide that tumbles you into a jungle pool of water. The water levels are highest between the months of December and June, making this the best time to enjoy the great splash.

More To See In Samoa
Lake Lanoto is also known as Goldfish Lake due to the abundance of Goldfish found there. Upon first glance, it is nothing more than a crater of pea green soup. Upon further exploration, one discovers that it is home to wild goldfish and leeches. The currents of the lake alternate between warm and cold giving the lake an eerier atmosphere if one chooses to swim in it.
In fact, it has been said that the bottom of the lake has never been discovered. Hiking is not highly recommended, especially near the lake, unless one has a guide. The trails are wildly overgrown with lush vegetation which is beautiful to look at and easy to get lost in.
Further up the coast of Upolu, the beaches are beautiful as well, but the reefs are less dangerous. Swimming is enjoyable in this area, one of the most beautiful in Samoa. The reefs are a brilliant shade of turquoise blue. Hiking in the islands opens views of lush vegetation and island wildlife.
