The hotspots in Amsterdam: Bars and restaurants that are happening!

Panama*
The trendy location of Panama is affectionately known as the 'Manhattan of Amsterdam', typically due to the industrial heritage of our city. As well as being a contemporary nightclub with great theatre shows, live music & popular club evenings, Panama also offers a trendy dance studio and a cafe restaurant with a grand terrace to the south for those mid-summer-nights...
The ZEBRA
A saucy new neighbour of Lux and Noa on the Korte Leidse Dwarsstraat: welcome to the Zebra Lounge champagne bar. It's original unveiling was as a high-end strip bar run by an English ex-pat, but even Amsterdam city council draws a line somewhere and the owner had to get rid of the pole dancers. Now it's a plush, intimate lounge, all sleek sofas, thick carpets and thriving plant life. All the drinks under the sun are on offer though champagne seemed to be most popular with the moneyed, upmarket regulars. You can still catch gorgeous gals in here too, they just aren't working.
Jimmy Woo
The man who brought Noa and Joia to the Dammage now brings this sultry Oriental- themed club to the scene. Named for a fictional Hong Kong triad boss, the main lounge is done up as if it were Mr Woo's home, the décor evoking the dark red and black moodiness of an 18th Century Opium den. Furnished with black leather sofas and gorgeous antiques from the Orient, it even includes an opium table. Bar staff at the dimly-lit bar will get you high on other substances: fine top-shelf cocktails mixed with freshly mashed tropical fruits. The dance floor with state-of-the-art lighting attracts the girls but you might want to Woo them up a sofa by the bar

The best way to get around in Amsterdam

Do like the locals and hop on a bike!

Amsterdam is one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world and is a centre of bicycle culture with good provision for cyclists such as bike paths and bike racks, which are pervasive throughout the city. In 2006, there were about 465,000 bicycles in Amsterdam. People use their bicycles for a lot of different purposes, which range from going to work to picking up the children from school and getting groceries. A wide variety of bicycles are used: road bicycles, but also mountain bikes, racing bikes and even recumbent bikes. Bicycle traffic, and traffic in general, is very safe.

In the city centre, driving a car is discouraged. Parking fees are steep and a great number of streets are closed to cars or are one-way.

There are also water taxis, a water bus, a boat sharing operation and canal cruises, that transport people along Amsterdam's waterways. Some 35% of all people travelling in Amsterdam uses public transport.

So make it like the locals and rent a bike!

Amsterdam was my first European city experience and I'll always remember it fondly.

What a mess... I prefer the quiet of the Swiss countryside (and I'm 70+ years old)
