Train Travel in Europe

Being continental used to be the realm of the rich. Paris, Madrid, Prague, historically, have beckoned box car hoppers and socialites a like. Nowadays, the options for everyday people with an everyday budget to travel Europe have opened up tremendously with cheap travel options to explore Europe's wide and beautiful terrain.

One of the great ways to travel Europe at a discount and still taste the continent's extensive range is through rail travel. When traveling Europe by train, be sure to get a Europe travel guide. Guide books can be great for letting you know important quirks or tips when going from country to country, and can help you maintain proper train etiquette so you don't accidentally offend your fellow passengers. Train travel in Europe can be adventurous, fun and exciting. However, the excitement of cultural clashes is one any tourist should try to avoid.

Train travel in Europe isn't the only way to go. There are planes, automobiles and sometimes boats. When you go out to site see you can always travel to Europe as part of a tour group using any of these methods. An advantage of tour groups the itinerary is set, so you don't have to worry about trying to find the best sites or arrange transportation and schedules. There is also safety and numbers, and comfort in having a knowledgeable guide should anything arise. Disadvantages of tours are that they often take you to tourist hot spots, which means you can miss the authenticity of the country and culture you are visiting. Sometimes tours can be cheaper than if you went yourself…but then again, if you are financially savvy when it comes to having fun on shoestring budgets, a tour may be more expensive than if you went by yourself or in a small group of friends.

By and far though, train travel will be the most economic and efficient way to get from place to place so you can maximize the time you have to enjoy the beautiful country.

Easter is a festive time to travel Europe and get a sense for how it's celebrated in different countries. Spain tends toward deeply catholic celebrations of Easter. When you travel Europe through France you'll find they incorporate bells and fish from the Christian traditions, rather than the egg and bunny, which are from the early pagan traditions.

Regardless of the time of year, or the method of travel, Europe has never been a more available and enjoyable destination for people of all budgets and walks of life.

Foreign Currency
If you're traveling abroad, it's a fair bet that you'll be consulting the exchange rates to see how far your pounds will go. Exchange rates are available for all currencies across the world, and usually change on a daily basis, which is why it's a good idea to shop around for the best exchange rates before you travel. Often, the rates offered at airports are less favourable than those you might get at a dedicated exchange rate bureau, and it's certainly better to exchange your money before you travel than to use your credit card to take money out of an ATM in your destination country, which can attract both unfavorable exchange rates and additional bank charges. Check for exchange rates in the financial pages of your paper, or keep an eye on online sites, where you may also be able to buy your foreign currency with no commission charges.
