THE SKETCHING TOOLKIT

Check out different approaches to creating a toolkit for sketching

Sketching Toolkit

sketching gear - as described by various sketchers

Sketchers love looking at what other people use for sketching - and just how much kit they take out with them

Travels with a Sketchbook in.......: My sketchbooks
I mainly use two different sketchbooks.
- Daler Rowney black hardback sketchbook
- Moleskine Sketchbook
Travels with a Sketchbook in.......: Travel sketch toolkit - what I take overseas
I'm a closet 'everything but the kitchen sink' artist - or at least I was until I started showing people what I take on my travels on the internet!

James Gurney shows Boing Boing what's in his bag when he goes sketching
Nina Johansson - Sketching gear

I am often asked what materials I use when out sketching, or drawing at home, type of pen, type of colours, and so forth. This is the answers page.
les calepins de lapin: my secret sketching gear
In this post, I tell you all the secrets of my favourite material I carry all the time in my pocket.
SketchBlog: Sketching Gear
Here is my sketching kit at the moment ... I have a few drawers of materials in my office, but this is what I'm currently traveling with for a summer in Rome.

Moleskine Folio Sketchbook

The new Folio A4 Sketchbook by Moleskine is my current favourite sketchbook. Since getting it I've been producing a lot of 11.5" x 17" sketches across a double page spread. It's brilliant for pen and ink and coloured pencils which I use all the time. I don't recommend its use for watercolour - get one of their watercolour sketchbooks instead.

Sketch Book A4 (Moleskine Srl)

Amazon Price: $19.72 (as of 02/18/2012)Buy Now

This sketchbook has all the usual features of Moleskine Sketchbooks. The main difference is its size
- 96 pages measuring 21 x 29.7cm. This means a double spread in inches is 11.5" tall by 17" wide and is my new favourite format for sketches
- the paper is the same high quality heavy paper, acid free paper. The 160 g/m2 weight means nothing ever shows through to the other side
- all the paper is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified
- smooth black hardback cover with rounded corners and an elastic band closure
- inside the end cover there is an inner expandable pocket which I use for mementoes of trips and tickets

Usually ships in 1-2 business days

Moleskine Folio A3 Sketchbook

This is my brand new Moleskine and I'm ecstatic as I'll now be able to produce large sketches on one sheet of paper without having to use a double page spread. The only downside is it's too big to go in backpack - but it's no bigger than an A3 size portfolio.

Sketch Book A3 (Moleskine Srl)

Amazon Price: $24.95 (as of 02/18/2012)Buy Now

This sketchbook has all the usual features of Moleskine Sketchbooks. The main difference is its size
- 96 ivory coloured pages measuring A3 (29.7 x 42cm). This means a single page 17" tall by 11.5" wide
- the paper is the same high quality heavy paper, acid free paper. The 160 g/m2 weight means nothing ever shows through to the other side
- all the paper is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified.
- smooth black hardback cover with rounded corners and an elastic band closure
- inside the end cover there is an inner expandable pocket which I use for mementoes of trips and tickets
