A Completely Different Way to Visit England, Scotland and Wales

In the United States, when you travel from state to state, you either fly or drive.  But traveling in Britain is a bit different.  You want to get the most out of your trip, and it's exciting when you let go of your traditional way of doing things and immerse yourself in the British culture.

Instead of taking your own car, for instance, when you travel to Britain, you'll want to use public transportation.  This might not bother New Yorkers, who are used to taking the subway and taxicabs, but to many Southerners, public transportation truly is a foreign concept.

While you're in Britain or Ireland, you'll want to take time to learn the rich history of the area and learn about the cultural differences.  You'll enjoy meeting local people and seeing the way Mother Nature molded a country that's not what you're used to back home.

You can easily plan a trip packed with fun and excitement to Britain or Ireland on a budget you can afford.  You just need the right kind of guidance.  A skilled travel agency that specializes in vacations to Britain

Group Travel to Historic England, Scotland and Wales

Especially important for families or small groups of friends!

The last thing you want to do when you plan a group trip to one of these amazing destinations is get stuck in a plan where your travel agent acts as a dictator andtells you what you'll be doing, where you'll be going, and what your costs will be.

You want a group tour you help design - one where you get to cast a vote in the activities. And you don't want the trip so regimented that there's no room for flexibility!

Some group tours you go on can be horribly fast-paced, never allowing you to slow down and enjoy the experience. Try working with a travel specialist who will let you set your own pace - one where the variety of experiences leaves you feeling satisfied and not regretful that you missed out on certain things you wanted to do.

Travel vs Terrorism!

For those planning to travel later in the year, recent events of the last few years make it more difficult to decide whether to go or not. Perceived problems are safety and affordability.

UK Travel Advice

Points to keep in mind if you are new to the UK or Ireland.

TIPS FOR TRAVEL TO THE UK.

1. Purchase a small packable umbrella which is no trouble to carry with you anywhere.
2. Purchase a small packable slicker again for that surprise shower.
3. Utilize the smaller airports in the UK. They are easier to negotiate and less likely to be terrorist targets.
4. Get out of London!!!!!! You miss 90% of the UK when you visit only London. It's a fabulous city and I am at the head of the line to recommend it but it is much more fun to begin exploring outside of urban areas. (in the US also)
5. Maximize the value of your trip by purchasing your airline tickets into one airport
and OUT OF A DIFFERENT AIRPORT. There is often no difference in the fares and if there is, it still saves you both time and money.
6. Learn what a hop on hop off bus is and take advantage of them for thorough sightseeing at the lowest price possible.
7. Use British Rail passes as privatization of the system in the UK has resulted in many different companies with different rules owning the trains. Passes are allowed by ALL COMPANIES so there is no hassle.
8. Museums are all free. This one is self explanatory!
9. The electric current is not the same as ours. Buying a shaver or hair dryer that is advertised as a "travel' item makes it unnecessary to use a converter. You can just use the British plug. (or anywhere else for that matter.)
10. Don't trust ATM's ONLY for money. Purchase travelers checks in the CURRENCY OF THE COUNTRY YOU ARE TRAVELING TO.
11. The Oyster Card vs the London Visitor Travelcard. The latter is a far better value than the former.
12. Only buy sightseeing passes if you intend to thoroughly VISIT SITES rather than just using them for a photo stop.
13. Don't purchase accommodations in the countryside if you are not driving in the UK. Taxi rides back and forth every day will quickly eat up any savings you might have earned. When traveling on public transportation location for a hotel is EVERYTHING. It must be public transportation friendly.
14. If any of your party cannot handle steps and require an elevator, you need to book at the hotel level. Rarely do you find elevators in B & B's or guesthouses.
15. A double bed in the UK may be the double bed we are familiar with but it may also be closer to a 3/4 bed. If you are over 200 pounds, plan to book hotels at the 4 star level because only then "might" you get a queen or king bed.
16. At night most hotels in the UK turn off all heat. In the north they may turn it down. E

I didn't know that any other area in Brittan has had terrorist activates except London. Of coerce it is possible anywhere at any time even before September 11th. Using public transportation is a good idea and sounds like fun. I am obsessed with everything about Scotland and Scotland vacations thanks for the ideas.

Great Lens! Really liked the way you refer to this beautiful Island. Sometimes is hard to find information about lovely places in Europe. I found excellent information about Galicia Tourism you may want to take a look there. Congratulations again for your interesting Lens!!

Generally, a good, informative lens with a lot of (mostly) sound advice.

I am, however, horrified to learn of these "terrorist attacks" which have occured round about me that I know absolutely nothing about!!!

Perhaps I should get out more...? :)
