* If your pet is naturally timid you may want to reconsider taking them on a flight if they do not meet the size requirement for carry on luggage. If you do take them on a flight, make sure tat the pet carrier you choose offers enough room for them to stand up, turn around, and lay down.

*No matter which form of travel that you use, NEVER muzzle your pet. Animals pant when they are stressed and this would prevent that.

* Make sure that you bring a leash with you. If you are traveling by airplane, make sure that you walk your pet immediately before the flight and then again when you land. If you are traveling by car you will be able to offer exercise periods for your pet at your discretion.

*You need to carry your pets shot records with you at all times. Also ensure that their shots are up to date. Identification tags also need to be current and secure. You will also want to make sure that identification is attached to the carrier, just in case your pet would somehow become separated.
