Ways People Do In Treating A Cold Sore

You may be cold-free for years but there might come a day when you wake up and then feel your lip twitching. You check out the mirror and you do not see anything wrong.

Maybe you are imagining things. You do what you usually do in your typical day then as the hours go by, you still feel the twitching.

Turns out you should have been treating a cold sore when you woke up.

Where Cold Sore Can Appear

Know that the tingling you are feeling can develop into a huge and cold sore that can get worse in each passing minute. This is a virus that upon entering your body can lurk there inside you, patiently waiting for the right time to make their attack. This is known as the cold sore.

Most of us have cold sores but we are not aware of this. These are called "fever blisters." Its medical name is "Herpes Simplex Type 1." Cold sores appear on the lips or in the mouth.

It can also appear on the other areas of the face, inside or outside the nose. It also forms in other parts of the body, such as the genital area. However, these are caused by herpes virus type 2.

A virus causes cold sores. These were obtained when we were still children. The virus stays in our bodies for the rest of our lives. There are several things that when once triggered can erupt into cold sores.

These are illness, stress, hormonal changes and sunburn. For some people, the virus stays inactive or dormant. For others, the cold sores may erupt when they lease expect it.

The unfortunate ones have cold sores year in and year out.

The first signs of a cold sore involve tingling and itching sensations. The reddest part of the skin is the itchiest spot of all. In just a short period of time, these small blisters will eventually form into the clusters.

Once these blisters break and release fluid, scabs are formed. It takes one week for the tingle to completely heal. Sometimes, these cold sores leave scars. Sometimes, they don't. It depends.

Treating a cold sore is usually the question asked by people who are inflicted. There is no cure for this herpes virus. However, there are methods in order to reduce the possible side effects.

Just like any illness, prevention is better than cure. It is smart to treat the cold sore the very minute an itch or a tingle appears.

Ice Cubes Will Help!

One can do this by holding an ice cube over the infected area for about five minutes. This is done every half-hour. This reduces the size of the sore when it appears.

One can also buy those treatments and cold sore creams that are available in drug stores. These topical ointments can prevent the cold sores from erupting.

Antiviral treatments like acyclovir or idoxuridine are also effective. These treatments work best when they are applied as soon as a symptom of the sore appears.

Do not touch the cold sores or the other areas of the skin near the sore. This spreads the infection and often results to the outbreak of another set of sores.

The infection on the eyes can also result to blindness. This rarely happens though. The best way in treating a cold sore is to make sure that you do what you can to prevent it from erupting.
