Ranked #14,048 in Healthy Living, #219,266 overall

Fibromyalgia Pain is Mostly Misunderstood

Because of the severeness of the pain caused by fibromyalgia and the many symptoms that will show up, it is very important for a patient to get the correct fibromyalgia treatment immediately after diagnosis has been made.

Since fibromyalgia symptoms can be very diverse it is important to look at all of them to find the right treatment in your personal case, whether that be by means of medicine or natural treatments.

Medication as a Treatment for Fibromyalgia Pain

Painkillers and over the counter pain medication are normally your doctor´s first choice of helping you relieve the pain related to fibromyalgia.

However, because of the diversity of symptoms, it is impossible to cure all fibromyalgia symptoms by just using one medicine.

Anti-depressants might be prescribed when apart from the pain, you also suffer from mood swings. Yet other medication might be considered to fight sleep disorders and the constant fatigue you might be experiencing.

Other symptoms can possibly be treated with anti-convulsant medication, muscle relaxants, anti-anxiety pills and even anti-neuralgic drugs.

Combining any of the above medications can be done only by a professional, in this case your doctor.

Fighting Fibromyalgia Pain with Nutritional Therapy

Another treatment for fibromyalgia is based on nutrition and diet. The purpose of using a diet for fibromyalgia patients is removing toxics from your body and trying to bring down the level of stress you endure.

Specific foods that are helpful for you health are added to your diet, while others that have a negative impact on your illness, will be eliminated or severally reduced.

In general this will mean that a fibromyalgia patient will need to reduce the intake of alcohol and caffeine, and will focus on eating more fruits and vegetables along with vitamin supplements to get all the nutrients that will increase general health.

Processed foods, sugars, fatty foods and red meats should be brought down to a minimum when it comes to diets for fibromyalgia patients.

Exercise Treatment to Reduce Fibromyalgia Pain

Even though this might not be the treatment most recommended, fibromyalgia patients can find relief in certain exercise therapies.

Especially those exercises that focus on improving muscle health and agility can reduce the intensity of the pain experienced by fibromyalgia patients.

Swimming, Tai Chi, Yoga and strength training not only improve the health of the muscles but will also have a positive affect on possible depression and anxiety, improve the quality of sleep and give a more general feeling of well being to deal with the pain.

Whatever type of exercise you choose, make sure though that the underlying focus is on relaxing and strenghtening your muscles and that any exercise regime you start is under supervision of an expert as not to put too much stress on your muscles.

I don't have fibromyalgia. I did have chronic fatigue syndrome many years ago. It disappeared after five years. I didn't know about Emotional Freedom Technique or meridian tapping back then, but if it were today, that is what I would try for both CFS and fibromyalgia.
