How does the Panic Disorder Cycle Work?
Everyone who has panic attacks has a panic cycle. Simply put, this is the conversation your mind and body have before, during, and after an attack. Knowing your panic disorder cycle may help you to understand common 'triggers' and how to fix them. Although this is the way most cycles go, the body can be the one to initiate the panic attack cycle.1. Your mind triggers your body - something has made you anxious, maybe too small for you to realize, but it makes your mind send a message of panic to your body.
2. Your body triggers your mind - receiving the message, your body will react, most often by making you feel like you are losing your breath. Why? It is your body's normal reaction to fear. Almost like when someone scares you and you scream.
3. The mind and body feed off of each other, often making the attack worse - the mind is getting this 'fear' signal from the body and in turn becomes more anxious. This sends a stronger signal to your body that it needs to be anxious too.
4. At some point, either the mind or the body sends the message that everything is ok and ends the cycle
