Hi, I have been bartending for over 15 years servin' up drinks in some of the trendiest establishments in 3 major North American cities.  Shots are always a staple in nightclubs, most having their own in house shot recipes.  Along the way, I've learned a lot of shot recipes, served a lot of shots and drank a lot of shots! Here are some of my favorites.  Enjoy!

All these shot recipes can be served as cocktails as well, straight up or on ice in a rocks glass.

SHOT RECIPES

An interesting explanation as to why a shot is called a shot:
In Wild West times, the price of a shot of whiskey was equivalent to the price of a bullet so cowboys would exchange a bullet for a whiskey. The amount of whiskey you got for a shot, a bullet, became know as a shot!

  • B-52 The classic girly shot

    Photobucket
    (Too much Grand Marnier!)

    1/2 Kahlua (It'll look better)
Pour Bailey's slowly over a spoon to layer, if you don't have a spoon, use the bottom of another shot glass, fill almost to top. Top with drop of Grand Marnier.

  • KAMIKAZEE The best this side of Japan!

First off, you have to approach this as a work of pride or as if you were making a martini for James Bond.
Fill metal shaker 1/2 with ice and add a dash of Triple Sec (1/3 of an ounce) swirl around until cold then pour out.
Refill shaker with ice, add 2 shots vodka and add 1/2 to 1 juice of a lime - about 1 shot (No Bar Mix or Lime Cordial please!) Cover shaker and swirl. Don't bruise the vodka! Add strainer and pour: makes 4-5 shots.

I've seduced many a man (gay and straight!) with this shot. Always a success!

  • UPPER CUT For young rockers

Fill rocks glass 1/3 with orange juice (some prefer grapefruit)
    Fill shot glass
    1/2 Southern Comfort
    1/2 Amaretto
Drop shot glass into juice and serve

  • RUSSIAN ROULETTE Sophisticated and Delicious

    1/3 vodka
    1/3 Kahlua
Pour vodka and layer Kahlua into shot glass. (see B-52)
Cover with sugar dipped lemon slice.
Pour at least 1 shot of Galiano into brandy snifter and ignite. (Hint: To light liqueur, slightly tilt the glass and swirl to coat glass to lip. Then place lit match close to side of glass.) See video below.
Pour the flaming Galiano onto the shots and allow to burn briefly. Extinguish, shoot the drink, and chase with a bite of the sugar and Galiano soaked lemon slice.

I once knocked over 10 of these (a sort of domino effect) as a customer, and set the bar on fire! Quite spectacular and embarassing! If making at home make sure you have a fire extinguisher handy.

  • IRISH CAR BOMB I like to drink!

    Photobucket

    1/2 Pint Guiness
Fill shot glass 1/2 with Jameson, layer 2nd half with Bailey's (see B-52).
    Serve side by side.
How to: Drop shot glass into Guiness and drink fast before the Bailey's curdles!

  • LIQUID COCAINE 'nuff said

    1/2 Goldschlagger
    1/2 Jaegermesiter

    CRACK
Add a dash of Southern Comfort

  • CHINA WHITE Ladies

    1/3 Bailey's
    1/3 white Creme de Cacao

  • LEMON DROP Great shot for hard drinkin' ladies.

    Photobucket

1 shot vodka (your preference, but I would recommend something with more body than Absolut)
1 lemon wedge coated in white sugar
How to: Suck lemon, drink shot!

  • PURPLE HAZE, VAMPIRE or another name, who cares! It's purple!

    Fill shaker with ice.
    Add 1 shot vodka
    1 shot Blue Curacao
    1/2 ounce grenadine
    1 shot 7-up
    Shake, strain and serve.

  • KOOL AID Can you say Girly drink?

    Fill shaker with ice
    1 shot Melon liqueur
    1 shot Amaretto
    1 shot Cranberry juice
    Shake, strain and serve

  • BLOW JOB Gay or Hen party your choice

  • BLOODY BRAIN Yech! But it looks cool!

    Photobucket

    2/3 Peach Schnapps
    1/3 Bailey's
    Add drop of grenadine

  • JAEGER BOMB I need some herb with my speed!

In collins glass pour 1/2 can RedBull
    Drop in shot of Jaeger.
