Creating the Future Organizations
The Ten Tenets
The Ten Tenets is the ten abiding principles that every CFO graduates live by. This is also the same principles instilled in the hearts and minds of the Hagtiks!
- Freedom of Choice
- All about creating our future, by making a conscious decision to take charge, meaningfully contribute and add value
- With choice comes responsibilitty for results (accountability)
- Life-long Learning
- Seeing everything as a life long learning experience, so that one no longer has a fear of failure.
- Experience and learning is gaining even if we do not achieve what we set out to achieve, helps us make better decisions the next time around which will provide greater value in the long run.
- Thriving for Change
- It is getting comfortable being uncomfortable. Always finding a new, more productive way.
- Recognizing change as a continuing opportunity, rather than as a threat. Change creates opportunities for innovative organizations.
- Cutting-edge and Innovation
- About having a competitive spirit, so you can push yourself, "to be better at what we do".
- What makes as potentially the most important asset as we have no limits.
- Sense of Purpose
- The drive, determination and passion that gets us to follow our freedom of choice, on what's right for us.
- What makes ordinary people do extra-ordinary things.
- Having a sense of purpose means that today, you need not wait with uncertainty for what the new millenium will bring. It means that today, you are shaping the future of your organization.
- Recognition
- Understanding recognition as a form of motivation so that team members are inspired to strech beyond their limit.
- Recognition is about driving team members to do more, and constantly raising the bar.
- Effective recognition is unique and personal.
- Communication
- True communication involves much listening and talking.
- A learning experience where the team leader communicates plans and team members can agree/disagree.
- Should be dynamic, transparent and open that creates trust in long term
- Understanding what you want communicated and what is successfully communicated needs the view of the listener.
- Check and Balance
- Instilling an effective check and balance system relieves the organization from having to patrol the troops.
- The system, in the form of company policies and procedures, does it for the company.
- Ultimate aim of check and balance is geared towards creating a performance culture.
- Having the mindset of always instilling mechanisms to track performance and/or ensure positive results.
- Fair Process
- Must have the process first - check and balance
- o Means changing the way we do things. It involves the employees at the first instance by engaging team members' input in decisions that directly affect them, creates and builds on trust and requires transparency.
- Interdependence
- In the future organization, a team cannot afford a deadlock, instead, it should add value.
- Interdependent relationships in the organization allows the quick movement in implementing change and new directions.
- The networked organization.
The tenet means that all of us have choices and we have the freedom to choose from them. Remember that what we are today are the products of our choices in the past.
Before you decide to take action, consider all your choices and choose the best. Your choice today will make you what you will be tomorrow.
This tenet means that learning is an unending endeavor. That, it is never too late to learn new things. As an individual we all have our learning experiences, the situations we are in offers a rich pool of learning. Let us not be afraid to try, because learning can reveal itself in different ways. Learning can come from failures and success. Let us not feel comfortable of what we know today.
This tenet means that life is constantly changing. That, nothing stays the same. As an individual we need to cope up with change. Let us not remain what we are, instead let us move forward, learn, and improve ourselves for the better.
This tenet means that as individuals, we need to keep challenging ourselves not just to push to the limit but push through the limits. We need need to keep ourselves sharp, expanding our horizons, innovate and reach new heights.
This tenet means that all of us have a sense of purpose. Living a life without a purpose is much worse than death itself. We need to ask ourselves, why are we here? What is my mission? Only when we find our purpose we know what to do with our lives.
This tenet means that life is not all about receiving, it is all about giving. When you recognize someone, you give value to that person. Life is all about relationship, we need to maintain our relationships by maintaining values to ourselves and others.
This tenet means that life is also about communication. Communication works hand in hand with relationship. As an individual we need to communicate with our fellowmen. Remember that no man is an island.
This tenet means that we need to check ourselves from time to time, are we still heading for our goals? are we still on our purpose? Often times we need others in able for us to see our selves. As human individuals it is natural for us to conceal our mistakes from ourselves, but with the help of others we can see clearly ourselves.
This tenet tells us that since we are all individuals that need other individuals, it is right that we practice fair process. Let use hear everybody out. Give time for others to give their opinions. If our opinions are boxed out, we need to live with the opinion that was accepted by the majority and do our best out of it.
This tenet tells that we are like threads. A single thread can easily break, but threads weaved together are stronger and can produce a better fabric. We need to accept that without others there would be no us. Interdependence is the tenet that brings us all to our goals.
