American Pain and American Pride
I wasn't concerned about the old wars that seemed so distant when I was a kid. My dad used to talk about the Big One, WWII, in which he served in combat as a Marine for 44 months. I couldn't really get a feel for that until September 11, 2001. My mind wandered to what would happen if my 17 year old son were to go to this war.
Only then did I realized what a drastic thing it must have been for my dad, who was only 20 years old in 1941, when he took a gun and a helmet and went to war. He had, of course, never been in a war before and I'm certain had never experienced anything like it. What was it like and how had it shaped the man he became? I was surprised by some of his answers.
We can't know the extent of the price these servicemen and women and their families pay. It's often none of our business; it's deeply personal and private. But I feel it is our duty to honor and respect them and express our gratitude for safeguarding our God given free will.

With Gratitude
I put together this slideshow as a tribute to some of our most important heroes. These are the men and women who go into harm's way to defend freedom, and their families who endure the journey with them from their own fronts at home. When the ultimate sacrifice is made, it affects all of us.I was so moved by Tim McGraw's recording of If You're Reading This, I knew it was the piece I was looking for to speak to the hearts of people. I am making no comment on the war.
This is a short reminder to those of us who contribute to the existence of this great country through our daily lives, running businesses and serving others with our own gifts, without a thought about those who have given their most precious possession. Some return home alive, some not, but all are changed.
I just want to say Thank You.
