Trophy Boosting
All next generation online console games now come with online achievements and trophies. Some are rock hard and take a long time to get, so people have decided that the easiest way to get them is to boost by playing with their friends and taking it in turns to win (or whatever the trophy requirements are) instead of playing competitively. So on this article I will express my views on the subject and ask the reader for their views. I will also tell you how to boost for yourself, using this information is completely up to you. I believe it is not cheating whereas other people strongly believe it is cheating.
Boosting = Cheating ???
I have taken part in many Playstation 3 forum debates about trophy boosting. Many people think it is cheating whilst others believe there is nothing wrong with it. I myself at first was on the side of the people who frowned upon it ... until I actually tried it myself. The first boosting session I joined was for the game Quantum of Solace, the session took 30 minutes to set up, nothing went to plan and I boosted zero points. My second boosting session was on Buzz and that was so mind numbingly boring I only boosted 1 win. So for all the doubters out there I would say try boosting before you make your mind up that it is cheating.
My take on boosting is ... Online trophies are put in the game so that you play the online side of the game. How you achieve the goals set by the programmer is up to you, nowhere in the rules does it say HOW you have to play the online modes, all the instructions do is give you guidelines on how to play that mode. Since cheating is defined as breaking rules, boosting is NOT cheating as you do not actually break any rules. It may not be morally correct to boost, but doing it in moderation is fine by me. Don't forget that while you are boosting you are still doing what the trophy intended in the first place and that is to play the game. Boosting can be boring, so if you want to boost and be bored out of your skull, go for it. Personally I will help other people boost as all online does not have to be competitive it can also be co-operative.
What is your take on Boosting?

Its fine becuase if the programmers could stop it from happening. And everyone can boost. That means everyone has a level playing field. And if you have the reasources to get the trophies then you should, becuase boosting is like steriods. It sounds bad because people say that it creates a unfair game, but if everyone does it it makes the game a even playing field. And if everyone has a lot of acheivments thatnks to boositng, then life gets a lot more fun

I don't understand these people that say this "ruins" the games for them.. how does the way I play a game ruin it for you?? please explain it to me... trophies are in place to make the game more fun.. THAT'S ALL.... so you have some more replay value out of the game if you wanna earn them all... it's fun people.. trophies don't MEAN ANYTHING!!! Will they end world hunger?? will you get a raise at your job?? will sony give you anything extra for them?? NOOOOOOOOO...... so how does the way I play MY game ruin it for you???? lol...

I don't think it's cheating. There is nowhere that says how we have to earn trophies and the simple fact that you have the trophy means you unlocked it by what ever means ment my the company to do so. Who cares if you looked it up online or had help... you went through whatever guidlines were put in place to EARN that trophy!!! Now if you are cheating... by glitching or kicking players out of games when they are doing better than you stuff like that.. now THAT'S cheating......

I believe to get trophies it is ok but to be number one on a leaderboard or to rank up online it is wrong

I'm for boosting. I figure that if I was able to earn the hardest difficulty trophy in the single-player mode of the game, but start dealing with the extremely random actions of live-players in a multiplayer setting that there's nothing wrong with it. The price to pay for boosting at best is sitting there and getting bored out of your mind ;-)

Boosting is fine, just make sure if you play Warhawk you do not do it. In Warhark it is called 'stat padding" and yes Sony resets players stats if caught 'stat padding". So cool as it may be, just be carefull if you intend to do do. I am for it, heck we pay for the game and the internet used to play so we should do as we wish.

Its fine to boost, it will just be boring for the people who do it and they wont feel any sense of achievement.

People only boost because the trophies/achievements are too tough and not worth the time so I don't see anything wrong with it. Unless it was a # of kills thats not okay but if it was like win 12 games in a row without dieing... yeah thats okay

If a person purchases a video game that person should be able to do whatever the hell they want to do with THEIR PROPERTY. That's their choice, not yours, not mines, not anybodys. The only person a booster would be "cheating" is themselves so on that note, why the fuck would anyone care? As far as I'm concerned all you bastard antagonist can rot in hell with your false gods and pagan beliefs. Your so called moral apply only to you, so keep them to yourself and shut your cock holster

Saying boosting's OK's like saying it's OK to use walkthroughs; they're acceptable, but in limited amounts. If you're doing it to get a Trophy, it's wrong. There a people that work hard to get a Trophy for the actual sense of accomplishment that they deserve, so that they may show of to another what they've achieved. By using a walkthrough/boosting, however, you're taking the easy way out. The end result will be the same; to show off to another. But by using cheats/boosting/walkthoughs, you haven't actually accomplished anything, other than a sense of false-satisfaction and the feeling that you've actually achieved something. You haven't, you've just earned another worthless Trophy for your collections that's now lost all of its value because you wanted to take the easy way out...
Take Fallout 3's Bobbleheads, for example. I take pride knowing that I legitimately found every last one of them, and hold my head high knowing that I rightfully earned the Trophy by scouring the entirety of the Capital Wasteland to locate every last one. The majority of you, however, will have just type "Fallout 3 Bobblehead Locations" into Google.

I really dont know what side to choose here. not all games are fun online, you might enjoy the single player version of the game and you've worked so hard for all the single player trophies..beating it on impossible difficulty..then you get hit with a handful of trophies that require 100+ hours of online gaming...so now your online in a room full of laggy glitchers and your wondering...how the hell is this ever going to work.
i'v "boosted" a couple times....hell, i'm still trying to get the AWP trophy for GTA IV...and the servers wont even calculate wins correctly. so you have to keep playing every single game mode over and over until u get the trophy, without "help" its going to be one long hard job.
you cant really boost in single player...and i believe thats where trophies belong. Call of Duty World at war when it first came out only had a handful of easy online trophies that introduced the player to the online version of the game..instead of other games were they force you to spend time consuming hours online just to get that one last shitty trophy thats holding ur hard earned platinum from you.

I will say that in general it is bad. It certainly cheapens the worth of the trophy. The authors says that the boosters don't break any rules - that is true, but it breaks the spirit of the rules.
That said, I think there are some trophies that depend entirely on factors outside the player's skill, and therefore there is nothing wrong boosting them. Take LBP's Create trophy - you need to get a pile of people to play your submitted level and heart it. Given how many levels there are, and that tagging is done by other users, it's VERY difficult to get your fantastic level noticed by anyone else. The only way (for most of us) to get your level noticed is to h4h and p4p with others, regardless of whether their levels deserve it. Hopefully it catches on, but it takes a lot of work (outside of creating the level). (Heck, even h4h/p4p with everyone to get enough plays and hearts takes a lot of work)
But definitely any "win an online multiplayer game" trophy by mutual forfeiting is wrong.

It takes a lot of hard work for some trophies. I would understand boosting if it was for something like 500 online matches on SF4 but NOT 3/5/10 wins in a row...

Boosting is lame. Its no "achievement" to not do the work needed to get the trophies. It doesn't put u at the same lvl of someone else who had to work hard to get them. If you want the trophies, earn them! If boosting isn't wrong, then what about buying them? What if they were just downloadable for free? Getting my point yet? Don't get difficult trophies so you can show them off like you worked hard to get them when you found the easiest way out. Boosting = unskilled/lazy

What the...? No one else hates boosting?
Boosting ruins the game for me, it turns what could be a challenging feat that you actually feel proud of if you get it, to "just another Achievement/Trophy"

How to Boost Playstation 3 Trophies
Basically there is two different ways to find people to boost with.
The first is by using your PS3 XMB (Cross Media Bar). All you have to do is go online on the game you want to boost on, play a few games and then go to your XMB and check out the people you have met (if you have explored your XMB you should have no problem finding this). You can then message people you have met in game and ask them if they want to trophy boost with you. This of course is long winded and you may not find any willing participants.
The second and best way to find people to boost with is by going to the forums, the best for this being at PS3Trophies where you will find plenty of people to boost with and if you don't know how to boost on the game you want to boost on, these people will help you.
Well, that's all there is to it. Everything else you will learn by trial and error.
