Ranked #1,861 in Movies & TV, #55,531 overall

Maryann Forrester is a character on the TV series True Blood.

Maryann Forrester is a Dionysian temptress who stirs up serious trouble in the town of Bon Temps during the second season of HBO's hit TV series True Blood. She is introduced in Season 1 as a free-spirited social worker, but soon enough we see that Maryann is something much darker and more complex. She is revealed in Season 2 as a Maenad, an ancient supernatural creature from Greek mythology. Maenads are associated with Dionysus, hedonism and Chaos. In spite of her destructive intentions, Maryann is my favorite True Blood character. She's a demonic diva who throws great parties. No mere human can resist the female force of nature that is Maryann.

Warning: True Blood season 2 finale spoilers ahead.

Maryann is dead.

Update: Maryann Forrester was killed in the Season 2 finale of True Blood.

RIP Maryann

Why Maryann is Awesome

She is tied with Lafayette for most nonconformist True Blood character.

I always love hedonistic tricksters like Maryann Forrester. Seriously, who wouldn't want Maryann at their party? She's fun, witty, charismatic, and fearless. Michelle Forbes, the actress who plays Maryann, has argued that her character is not a villain but a natural creature of Chaos who doesn't see morality the way humans do. "She wants everyone to join the party," says Forbes. Hey, I'm there. She wouldn't even have to put a spell on me -- I'd show up of my own free will, which is fortunate because I do not care for that uniformly pitch-black eyeball thing that people get when Maryann takes control of them. I'll keep the whites of my eyes the way they are, thanks.

Maryann's Fate on True Blood

Did you predict the demise of Maryann Forrester?

Maenads aren't immortal, as I learned from Wikipedia. This turned out to be a key fact in the season 2 finale of True Blood, in which Maryann Forrester was killed by Sam Merlotte in the guise of Dionysus. Some who took the poll below predicted this outcome correctly, but most of you thought Maryann would survive.

Lafayette on Maryann

Add a caption to this photo of True Blood character Lafayette.

Lafayette would probably be outraged by everything I've written here. What's he saying in response to my comments about Maryann Forrester? Watch the language, people... this page is supposed to be rated G.

Girl please! Ain't nothing I ever done been rated G.

Demonic Divas of True Blood

Wicked women of Bon Temps.

Maryann is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting hellions in television history... but she's got some great competition among the other female characters on the show. Vote for your favorite True Blood bad girl here.

Your Thoughts on Maryann, Maenads, and True Blood

Sound off on True Blood characters, Greek mythology, or whatever.

I'm guessing that Maryann will not be most people's favorite True Blood character. If you watch the show, which character do you like best? Or, if you aren't a fan of the television world of Bon Temps, Sookie Stackhouse and vampires, maybe you'd rather discuss Maenads and their role in Greek myth. In any case, you simply must join the party... it is not optional. No registration required.
