So Why Doesn't Goal Setting Work?
There are 25 600 000 pages on the internet about Goal Setting, then why do so many people not have them or better still, believe that they don't work?

There is so much on the internet with regards to goal setting (20 million pages) and all very relevant and valid, however, in my experience (presenter of personal development programs) if you don't have an understanding of how your mind works through the Goal Setting process, you will struggle - that's a fact!
Don't underestimate the Force.
The Force, I call it, is our comfort zone that is our living, work, and social environment that we have grown accustomed to. We feel safe, comfortable,secure and stable within our comfort zone. Inside your comfort zone is everything you've done often enough that you feel confident about. Your comfort zone is the way you do things, the way you think, the things you believe. It is familiar territory, and it is where you feel totally safe and secure. It determines the lifestyle we have.
An example of how your comfort zone works is in starting is in starting a new job. When you commence your new position, you will go through what they call a 'honeymoon' phase that can range from one minute to several days. This is where you are shown the ropes of your new position or given a 'buddy' for the first few hours or days. Once this 'honeymoon' phase is over you are on your own - to some degree.
When you step outside your comfort zone your subconscious mind sends you signals such as sweaty palms, jumbled thoughts, upset stomach and increased nervousness. Your subconscious is saying, "Don't stay here; let me take you back to where you are comfortable." When you feel like this, your creative subconscious is working towards maintaining the balance with your inner version of reality. It tries to get you to return to where you think and believe you belong.
You can now see why change can be so difficult. By understanding how powerful your mind is and how it works, you can see how this could mean that you might never really venture out of your comfort zone even if you know it would be good for you.
My point is that there are probably many people who would truly like to try another vocation or perhaps pursue their hobby fulltime, but unfortunately will not act on these feelings. It has nothing to do with their ability to succeed, but these people will be 'out of their comfort zone' and could be just overwhelmed and think that it is all too much. These feelings are completely natural and are to be expected. The key is knowing exactly what is going on and how to deal with it.
Goal Setting does work - you just need to know how it works.

Expand Your Comfort Zone through Affirmations and Visualisation
In order to truly live the life you always dreamed, you need to grow and expand your comfort zones. The best way I know how to do this is through affirmations and visualisation.
Until you can master these techniques, your creative subconscious will continually try and hold you back from growing.
Hints in Affirmations and Visualisation
Personal growth is a process that allows us to use visualisation and affirmations in order to navigate through the procedures. Affirmations and visualisation are the best techniques I know and use in order to make positive changes in my life.
Once you decide to make a change of any sort in your life, the first step towards making that change is to change your self-talk. Affirmations are the most effective way of doing this. Affirmations are simply statements of belief that you make about yourself. Your own self-talk. They can be negative or positive. This is the best way I know to achieve your goals.
Just deciding to change is not enough. You need a clear picture in your mind of what you want or what you want to change about yourself and affirmations are a great tool for making this happen.
We choose to create our own beliefs - no one 'zapped' them in to you - you gave sanction or authorised their acceptance as the new belief. Some people say it's silly and you're just lying to yourself - this is not true. What you are doing is creating the new you. Your subconscious doesn't know the difference between what the truth is and what a lie is. It will believe what you tell it to believe through your self-talk. Whether or not you allow it to become a true belief is within your control.
How visualisations work and what they do:
Visualisations are mental images that we conjure up in the mind. It gives us a clearer picture of what we are thinking, or what others are saying to us. When we develop mental pictures in our head it can give us new ideas, or help us develop new ideas. We create dreams through mental pictures, which also help us to develop new ideas.
Visualisations help us to use thought to consider our beliefs, views, opinions, theories, concepts and so forth.
We all have to work our way through personal-development. Despite where we pick up and move faster to develop our skills, we all have to get it done. Sadly, however, many people have left the world underdeveloped, and many more will leave the world the same way. Many people miss the benefits of meeting the inner self. The inner self is the entire being within each of us that sets us free from burden, distress, illness and other harms. We have the inner strength, which is the inner self that allows us to draw from its source to find ways to develop the entire human being.
Yet, we have many things to consider. We have to discover our self-identity throughout the process of development. Online you will come across hints that will help you work through personal-development by using affirmations and visualisations. Many hints offered for personal-development today are directed toward the new age arena. We are in the new age now, so why not explore the market to see what is happening. Take the tips and use them to your advantage. Most techniques offered online are free to try. For example, some authors will show you how to meditate properly at no charge.

Now consider that! Think to yourself the achievements you could make if you knew you could not fail. Fear of Failure is one of, if not the biggest roadblocks to personal success. Once again it comes back to stepping outside your comfort zone and creating the new you!
For me, expanding my comfort zone meant that life became an adventure. As the old saying goes, 'Life is not a dress rehearsal, it is real and happening now.'
