Trying to get pregnant at 38 takes a little more effort than at 18!
We all know that fertility declines with age but with a very good diet, low stress and tests to ensure that there are no obvious reasons for fertility issues (disease, sperm count etc) you can have the baby you want. I did, Michelle did and so did countless other women.
You probably need to start doing things like checking your temperature, ovulation etc if you have been following a very good eating plan but have not got pregnant within six months of trying.
There are plenty of things you can do in order to maximise your chances of having your baby.

Tips to help when trying to get pregnant at 38
Wonderful - just what the doctor ordered. You see your eggs were part of you whilst you were your mum's bump so hence they are older. And being older they may have lost some of their joy de vivre! But you can recover the quality of your eggs by following a few simple steps:
1 - Don't listen to the doctors talking about age!
2 - Ask for a nutritional analysis to check your zinc, calcium and selenium levels. Bring your partner and get him checked too as he is integral to this process.
3 - Have a full check up to discount problems such as polycystic ovaries, fibroids and other health issues.
4- Eat more fat. What! Yes, I did say/write eat more fat but the good stuff. I am talking about essential fatty acids found in seeds, nuts and oily fish. Discuss taking a supplement of Omega 3 and Omega 6 with your doctor.
There are so many tips to help when Trying to get pregnant at any age, never mind the "old" age of 38 lol I can't list them all tonight. But if you want some more tips now head over to my other lens on tips for getting pregnant quickly

You need extra help when trying to get pregnant at 38, 39 or older
- Folic Acid
You both need up to 400ug of Folic Acid per day!
You will have heard that every woman who wants a baby should increase the quantity of folic acid in her diet. Women assume that this is to prevent Spina Bifida in the baby and it certainly helps do that. But what most women don't know is that they are probably lacking a lot B vitamins which are vital to fertility and that includes folic acid.
You are especially vunerable if you are vegetarian or vegan. Women who have digestive problems may also be lacking in folic acid. Folic acid deficincy causes ferility problems in men as well. if you or your man enjoy alcohol you may be even more at risk of not having sufficient B vitamins. - Selenium
This is of particular importance to the man in your life. Selenium is used in the production of sperm's tails - they need to be long in order to help them swim to get to your egg on time.
It stands to reason then that lack of this mineral has been linked to sperm mobility issues.Men with low sperm count often have low selenium levels when tested.
Get your man down to the Dr today - lack of selenium can be solved by taking a supplement of 100 ug per day - not a bad price to pay for increased fertility and longer tailed sperm! - Essential Fatty Acids
These fats are also involved in boosting your baby's brain and central nervous system. Some of us are ingesting too much Omega 6, thanks to increased consumption of vegatable oils.
To help prevent miscarriages and abnormal sperm, you should increase the quantity of Omega 3 fats in both of your bodies. Yes this one is for him too!
Swap some Omega 6 sources for Omega 3 to balance out the requirements of a healthy body. You can find Omega 3 in green vegetables and oily fish such as Salmon or Mackerel. - Vitamin A
Vitamin A is essential to the development of your unborn baby so you need to make sure you have sufficient stores at conception.
This has had some bad press as it has been linked to birth defects - this is the Vitamin A derived from animal sources so don't overdose on Liver. Vegetable sources are very safe to eat more tomatoes, red peppers, pumpkins, eggs, mangoes, brocooli and other green vegetables.
Do you notice a trend here - Eat More Green Vegetables! - Vitamin B
It has been suggested that B6 can double your chances of getting pregnant. It regulates the levels of Oestrogen and Progesterone in the body.. Some experts think that Vitamin B6 will reduce your risk of a miscarriage..
Your ability to become pregnant is directly linked to the quantity of B vitamins you consume. The doctors are not fully sure what role the different vitamins play but the evidence suggests that all women who are trying to have a baby should increase their consumption. Eat more green vegetables, oily fish (tuna, mackerel, salmon), whole grains, chick peas and seaweeds. - Vitamin C
Vitamin C has long been linked to ovulation. In the 1970's women were given this vitamin when undergoing fertility treatment. Newer studies have proved the importance of Vitamin C to both partners as it can increase sperm volumes. Good sources of this vitamin include green vegetables such as brussel sprouts, Citrus fruits, Kiwis, red peppers and strawberries.
Improve your diet to increase your chance of being pregnant at 38
You may know that increased levels of Oestrogen in your system accounts for a higher risk of breast cancer. But it has also been implicated as being a cause of a number of female problems which hinder your efforts to become pregnant.
Fibroids, endometriosis and heavy periods can all be linked back to higher than usual levels of oestrogen. So what you can do? Eat more organic soya. Soya helps to sheld the body from ingesting more oestrogen so it is worth considering as an addition to your diet. You could try soya milk or add tofu to your stir frys.
Speaking of stir frys, you need to up your consumption of fruit and vegetables. Forget 5 a day, we want 7 a day at least. Also vary the colours - think rainbow and you get the picture!
We have already mentioned increasing the good fats so I won't bore you with that one again.
You need to ditch the caffeine but slowly to avoid the withdrawal symptoms. I am going to be a real party pooper now but alcohol, saturated fats (those in cakes and biscuits) and GM foods are all off the your diet list as well.
Don't worry you will thank me later! Believe me Trying to get pregnant at 38,whilst not impossible at all, does take some effort on your part.
But the prize is worth any short term pain - I know because I won mine!
