"I ordered this DVD called set called turbo jam on TV. The results on TV were incredible. This lady with six or seven children had abs that puts abs of steel to shame. They were really cut. It looks like so much fun."
Well, this is the beginning of the year and the New Year's resolution on everyone's mind, I thought that at least part of the excitement is finding something new, perhaps a new As Seen On TV fad that lasts until the next one comes along. So, I thought to myself why not check it out and by checking it out, I partially meant checking it out on youtube and on the Internet. The real test would come later when the Turbo Jam DVD set would arrive and I actually do it myself.
But first, I did go on the youtube and this is what I found.

The package finally arrived and I noticed I was mildly curious! The truth is I called my wife and asked if I can open the package.The package included five items. Two DVD collection with a total of 3 DVD, turbo slim 10-Day Kick Start and turbo results guide book plus the infamous weight gloves.

This guide has a few reminders we know about and a ten day menu. I really agree with what Chalene writes, "It's only ten days. The more serious you are, the more astonishing your results."Most of us have difficulty focusing on a single goal for any length of time. Test this! Try to think of a person's name and see how long you can hold your attention on the name before you start thinking about the events surrounding and associated with the name. One second? Two? May be even three? The more you think about the events, the less you think about the person's name.
High achievers in sports and other fields can hold on to a single idea for an incredibly long time. So hold this thought. It is only ten days and you really can be incredibly different at the end of the ten days. The more you think about other little things, the less likely that you can hold this thought and act upon it.
Chalene provides an additional practical suggestion. "Throw it away! if there are foods in your home that you can't resist, toss them!"

Turbo Jam Maximum Results Guide Book
This guide has five sections. What I liked most is the detail of the Elite 11 since the video went a little too fast for me. My wife and I started watching the video together and in couple of minutes she had the hang of it. I on the other hand had to struggle for about ten minutes and then sneak out to get the Turbo Results Guidebook.Chalene Johnson refers to the Elite 11 as, "Learn 'em. Love 'em. Live 'em." They are Turbo Tuck, Pump, Zig/Zag, Strike, Twist, Row, "W", 7 Step, Shake and Shed, Capoeira Step and Wheel.
Once I learned them, it was easy to love them since I realized how simple and effective these Elite 11 are in keeping core muscle groups tight and the posture strong. This posture allowed me to really get into the fun part of the exercise without slipping into ineffective posture and movement. Now I am working on the third part of living 'em. As I am typing, I keep my abs tight and the back straight. It really is simple and it works.

My wife loved the clock and timer section that shows you how far you have gone. She commented that the this part of the turbo jam workout was so fast pace that the clock to seemed to be on turbo time.Chalene Johnson has combined kickboxing, dance and martial arts into turbo jam workout routine. For me, with my back ground in Tae Kwon Do (a Korean Martial Art) and some familiarity with kickboxing the instructions and movements were a little odd. I was thinking to myself, put your hip into it or keep your elbows up, etc. Then I realized that as you advance in martial arts, same in life, you find ways to get more bang for the buck, you become more direct and efficient. Well efficiency and economy in movement is one of the reasons we gain weight.
It is more economical to take the elevator than the stairs, but elevators do not help you with muscle tone and fat loss.
Charlene is right in her approach to alter some of the movements to less efficient but more calorie burning forms.
The goal is after all to punch out someone, but to burn as much calorie as possible and have lots of fun doing it. Turbojam, Punch, Kick & Jam does that extremely well.
