Yoga Pscyhology: Rethinking the Mind

Yoga Psychology

The mind: a unique part of life that gives us the ability to think and conceptualize the world we live in. But what is it about the mind that is so hard to pin down? We cannot put it under a microscope because it cannot be seen. We cannot hold it up to the light and try to understand its form because it cannot be illuminated with external light. But it is there, this mind, and it plays a curtail part in the way we hear, think, act, and experience our lives.

The mind has been described in many ways. Some form of psychology make the claim that the mind is within the brain, coming from a set of neurological impulses that create electric waves between cells within the different lobes of the brain matter. Other forms of psychology exclaim that the mind is tucked within the sense, where different connections between our world and our body stimulate an activity of the appearance of a mind. But it is only when we move away from the material definition of this illusive mind that we begin to find explanations.

Yoga Psychology takes its form in the subtle aspects of human existence. While conventional models of psychology look towards the material world for the basic questions of why we think and how we can experience the 'I', Yoga psychology transforms modern science by pointing our attention towards a less material dimension of existence, where substance is beyond the 5 senses of the human body. And why can this not be possible after all? There are fish under the see that have nothing but the sense of touch to make their way around the ocean floor, so why is it impossible to imagine a dimension beyond the senses we have as human beings? If the fish were to tell you that the world is nothing but sharp objects and smooth banks, you would surely exclaim that it is something far great. But how will this fish every come to understand this idea with only one of the 5 senses that we have.

In Yoga Psychology, we take the concept of the 5 senses and expand them into a new dimension where we are not limiting our observation to what we experience on a daily bases. We accept the possibility of a higher order from which we were formed. The mind is simply a connecting strand between this higher dimension and the root level, or material level, which we experience through our worldly perception

Talk about the mind from Osho

Osho has his own view of mind that is very unique to the metaphysical psychology

OSHO: Compassion - The Ultimate Flowering of Love

Osho examines the nature of compassion from a radically different perspective. He points out that "passion" lies at the root of the word, and then proceeds to challenge assumptions about what compassion really is. He shows how the path to authentic compassion arises from within, beginning with a deep acceptance and love of oneself. Only then, says Osho, does compassion flower into a healing force, rooted in the unconditional acceptance of the other as he or she is. Excerpt from an original, 104-minute talk by Osho now available on DVD with the book COMPASSION -- St. Martin's Griffin (February 2007) ORDER here: http://www.amazon.com/Compassion-Ultimate-Flowering-Insights-Living/dp/0312365683/ref=sr_1_1/102-8941334-8855322?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1175263026&sr=1-1
