Turner Classic Movies is the ultimate cable television station for film buffs. Where else can a full-day of movie viewing be devoted to the films of June Allyson or Jean Harlow? Where else can you wake up in the middle of the night and catch "The Thin Man" or plan your schedule around when 1939's "The Women" is shown?
This lens celebrates TCM, Robert Osborne and all his private screening interviews, the clever and ever-interesting tcm.com web site, and all the stars who are not forgotten.
The Now Playing Guide
Monthly TCM schedule
A very inexpensive yearly subscription ($11.95) buys you this handy little TCM companion. The TCM schedulers are amazing and so organized. I love the themed nights and the simple icons that describe if a film is a drama, comedy, or musical.Every month there is a star and director or producer that is featured. Robert Osborne gives his take on stars, many that he know or knew personally. Fascinating reading, for a TV guide.
Private Screenings and other Gems
TCM-produced specials
Special documentaries on the making of some of the most classic films, TCM-produced biographies on so many stars, and even the vignettes that are shown between motion pictures are classics in themselves. Narrated by today's stars who admire and respect the stars of yesteryear, these short takes on stars' lives give stars such as Myrna Loy, Lauren Bacall, Joan Crawford and Jean Harlow their due. A classic is the celebration of Elizabeth Taylor as told by Paul Newman.
These are not usually on the schedule, but are aired in between movies as are One Reel Wonders, old shorts that are given a new lease on life, and even the wonderful old newsreel clips.

I admit that I love the old MGM musicals and of course the black and white films from the 1930s. I know I'm not alone!
