Tutankhamun Mummy

Ranked #6,266 in Culture & Society, #126,652 overall

Tutankhamun's Mummy is special because it was found in his own tomb (known today as Tomb KV62) in Egypt's famous Valley of the Kings, complete with the vast majority of his lavish funerary treasures. While those treasures are famous, until recently his mummy had not been studied as extensively. In this page, learn more about his mummy and follow the links to the best pictures and resources on the Web.

Best Pictures of Tutankhamun's Mummy

For copyright reasons I cannot include the best pictures of Tutankhamun's mummy on the lens, so instead I have researched the best pictures for you and provided you with a list of links. Sadly Tutankhamun's mummy has suffered more damage and deteriorating in the century this it's discovery than in the two millennia it lay undisturbed in the Valley of the Kings. Perhaps it is embarassment at how King Tut's mummy has been treated, but it is actually very hard to find a modern photo showing the full length of the mummy.
Uncovering Tutankhamun's Mummy
Dr Hawass and his team uncover Tutankhamun's mummy which still rests in KV62, his tomb in the Valley of the Kings. The photo also shows the decoration on the walls of the tomb.
Tutankhamun's Feet
Tutankhamun's tomb contained dozens of walking sticks. Studies of his mummy has shown that he would definitely have had a bad limp. A clear picture of the feet if his mummy is therefore very interesting.
Tutankhamun's Head
This is a clear side shot of the head of the mummy.
Glass Case Protecting the King's Mummy
Tutankhamun's mummy still lies in his tomb in the Valley of the Kings and is protected by a glass case. His modesty is protected by the inner gold coffin.

Tutankhamun's Tomb in Egypt's Valley of the Kings

King Tutanakhamun was buried in Egypt's Valley of the Kings in a tomb that has become world famous for the amaing treasures discovered by Howard Carter and Lord Carnaron. There is so much to show that I have written a detailed lens about this tomb (known as KV62) and the "wonderful things" found by Howard Carter in 1922.

What Did Tutankhamun Look Like?

There have been many forensics reconstructions of the faces of Egyptian mummies. This video is a collection of many of them. The Tutankhamun segment starts about 1:23 if you wish to jump straight to it. It shows his face and the plaster cast that was built as an intermediate step before flesh effects and color were added.
